Vote: Replace / Rebuild damaged front Caliper or just buy a BBk kit

Cooked my front caliper pretty good at a track event last week. (pads worn to metal on metal). Front caliper paint stripped due to high heat as well as piston boot essentially ripped of. I am having a hard time deciding whether to rebuild or replace front caliper or just say screw it and buy a Stoptech BBk kit. Sad thing is Audi wants $100 just for a rubber boot...lol. (aftermarket is $80). That same caliper repair kit for any other car is $8 dollars. A new Caliper is $400 ($350 aftermarket). I know this is kind of a rhetorical post as everyone here will most likely say "just spend the extra $1,800 and get the BBK. However the largest kit I can go with is the 355MM BBK that fit my track set up. So some diminished braking performance from a standard 380MM BBK kit.

    What would you do?

It all depends on your budget.
If you can afford a BBK then now is the perfect opportunity as you are forced to spend $ on new brakes. I always say upgrade at these junctures if you can afford to do so. If 355MM BBK is all you can fit then go for it.

BTW - next time know how much pad you have left before doing a track day LOL.

OP, you have PM. Replacement seals/dust boot kits are dirt cheap if you decide to go that route.

Thanks, weird that ecs tuning for example has the caliper repair kit at $90 while the link you sent has it at $2.87...lol. I agree the cost for 2 rubber pieces should only be $3 but what a racket!

If you decide to upgrade let us know. We recommend StopTech kits from experience. They are designed for each application and keep the brake bias in check.

Go for the BBK. And shop around you'll be surprised at the prices you'll find.

I've got the Stoptech kit. I haven't upgraded the pads it comes with since I have yet to hit the track but I'm pretty happy with them. Would love to go with the brembos, just too rich for me at the moment.

I went with the Stoptech BBk...decision made. I have heard minor issues with rusting....anyone else have that problem. I live in MN so this winter may be especially brutal on them. Anyway to alleviate that?

When you get them installed post some pictures! If we can do anything else for you in the future be sure to let me know.

    Thanks,
