New Escort iX radar detector

When Escort announced their new iX detector last month, with new tech that filters out all the crap on K band, like side detection and radar based cruise controls, I ordered one. I have been getting really tired of all the false alarms on K band. When I had my Escort Redline in the car, my car would set off K band if I was around big trucks in traffic. I've been driving with the new iX for about 3 week now, This new iX is amazing! It stays silent until actual speed radar is detected. I was starting to think it was broken the first week, it didn't go off at all for 4 days. This new tech really works! It also has GPS to remember stationary false alerts. The only think I do not like is the new mount, which is magnetic and requires the use of their new "sticky cup" mount, which hangs a bit too low for my liking.

If you are looking for a new detector, buy this one, I highly recommend it!

Nope. It's a new magnetic mount, only option is their sticky cup designed just for this model. I can no longer switch detectors back and forth between my cars. Only downside to this model.

It's been a really long time since I've owned a radar detector. Do you find that the link features work where other users report traps, false alerts etc? I use Waze currently, which obviously sucks when you are the first guy coming up on a newly positioned Statey doing triple digits ...

I've got the Max360 and Blendmount for my S6. Extremely happy with this setup and the Max360 works great!

I bought a new Valentine1 maybe a year ago (to replace an old one, just in case)... one of the versions that is supposed to already have the software that silences the assisted cruise control noise. I haven't had any false positives other than the daily Laser alert from Google self driving cars.

I opted to not activate that feature, really didn't think it was worth the extra money.

Thanks for the info bobamoo. I'm in the market for a radar detector and want something to get my by until I decide to go all out... What comes with the detector (i.e. in the box)? Are you able to get a blendmount for a more "custom" look?

That is awesome to hear it is performing great. As the replacement to the 9500ix, I really like the engineering on the Escort iX; all except the magnetic mount. I prefer a cleaner install such as a visor clip or blend mount and it look like one may not be feasible with this model. I'll lurk around to see if some company comes up with another mounting method. In the meantime, I'm Team Redline-segmented!

Does the IX "chirp" for stored spots and on start up? I have a max2 I bought a few months back, and I'm seriously about to smash the stupid thing. The chirp is so annoying it disregards volume and is just generally crap. I didn't see anyway to turn it off in the manual so once I'm home I'll be calling escort to figure this out.

I agree about the magnetic mount. While it is holding strong and tight, the sticky cup mount is huge and hangs way too low. I had hardwire kits installed in both cars, and the old small dual suction cup mounts allowed me to swap detectors between both cars. Now I can't, unless I remove the small mount in my C30, take this one down and remount in the C30. Hassle. So the Redline will stay in the C30 and the iX in the Audi. I'm hoping someone will come out with a lower profile mount.

Box had the detector, the mount, one of their "smart cords" and a case.

I haven't stored any locations yet, so I can't say. But so far, it has remained silent in every store parking lot I've been to, so nothing to store.

That's awesome. I still love my 9500ci with integration into the instrument cluster. No box hanging or anything AND I can mute with steering wheel controls. I LOVE it! But it's $$$

I emailed Blendmount to see if they have a mount available for the iX and recieved this response today (8/23/16):

Ahh I see now. Thanks for the pics, looks like we posted at the same time. Is it safe to say that it can't fit on top of the mirror? Really interested in this radar detector...

Do the Max360 and the Escort ix have the same filters for side detection K band? I have a 9500ix as well and it drives me nuts.

I turned off k band. I think in the area where I live ka is the only part of k band used. I now get zero false alerts. I guess I'll update when I get pulled over the first time because they were using k and I don't detect it lol

I've considered it. In the 5 years since having the 9500ix I've had two instances where a K band was used in a trap. Could've been two tickets, so I'm putting up with the falsest for now.

This is amazing. What does it look like when you have it selected? Does it display any alerts when that menu is not selected? See a clip of it in action would be awesome. Almost regretting ordering the passport ix...

nope- the signal stays there only when there is an alert for a few seconds then the stereo function comes back. see video below. its quite awesome!

I should clarify that the integration into the instrument cluster is an additional unit from a company called mid city engineering. Pm me for details !

That's why I'm not sold on the integrated units. New tech comes along all the time, any way to upgrade the built in?

I second this. Is the 9500ci considered "out dated" in terms of hardware? Looks like their laser shifters are still second to ALP, but their radar and software/mobile apps seem to be #1
