    Happy New Owner

I've been a VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI owner for several years. I've liked and appreciated German cars for a very long time and have owned a long list of VWs including ordinary Beetles, a VW dune buggy, a VW Baja Bug, and an '86 Golf. I've loved the Jetta TDI but when VW offered me a generous buyback I decided it was a great opportunity to upgrade.

I purchased a 2016 Audi Q5 TDI Premium + last Friday afternoon from the Audi dealer in St. Paul, MN and drove it home Friday night and Saturday.

With 1100 miles in my new Audi I'm a believer. It's a great car and I'm very pleased to join your ranks.

Congrats! I've never driven the TDI before, but everyone who has seems to really love it. I thought that Audi had a stop sale on the 3.0 TDI though until all the pending litigation etc was worked out. Did you purchase it new?

How did an Audi dealer sell this? Did the stop sale get lifted or was this sold non-CPO without warranty?

They can sell used vehicles, but they can't be CPO.

Congrats on your 2016 Q5 TDI.

Can your provide some details about your Jetta TDI buyback? Official civil settlement VW TDI buybacks haven't started yet, so I'm curious what VW offered you. Could you share your Jetta's mileage and the "generous buyback offer" the dealer offered you? Was it better than what has been mentioned in the news and on sites like MarketWatch.com(http://www.marketwatch.com/story/vol...sco-2016-06-28)?

I'm interested in this as well. I wonder if this was sold from another car manufacture's used car lot? Due to the scandal, Audi dealers aren't supposed to be selling new or CPO'd 2016 3.0L TDIs right now. Is this a CPO or new 2016?

Any information you can share HBarlow, would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's showroom new but technically a used car. It was originally delivered to the selling dealer. The MSRP window decal includes a note stating "service loaner" or words to that effect. The dealer leased it to itself for three months to be used as a service loaner. It had 2300 miles at lease end. I bought it with 2800 miles at a price far lower than MSRP.

    A great car.

Non cpo as required under the stop sale order but with the standard Audi factory warranty.

You can read all the information on the VW TDI modify or buy back program online. At the top of the official VW website is a block titled settlement. Click to open.

I'll share my specifics. I own a 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI DSG with 112,000 miles. VW has already provided two free loaded $500 Visa card. One can be used anywhere. The other can only be spent at a VW dealer.

When the final agreement is signed in October and the program is implemented VW will give me a goodwill check for $5100 plus buy back my VW for $9200. I could keep the car and the $5100 or hand over the car and the title and collect a total of $14,300. I'm going to hand over the car and the title.

Nothing will happen until probably in December.

I explained the background of my Audi in another post above. I paid $47k for a new/used Audi with 2800 miles and an MSRP of $54,750. I'm pleased.

Last week when I was looking on cars.com Audi of St Paul MN had the car I bought listed with a price of $48,499. Audi of Bozemen MT had two nearly identical cars listed with a few thousand miles for $49k and $48k respectively. Bozeman Audi's cars were also service loaners. My guess is the Bozeman dealer would negotiate also.

I wanted a white car so my search was limited to white exterior. I believe there are other similar off lease Audi TDIs available in other colors with similar miles.

I can recommend Audi of St Paul. They were easy to deal with, honest, and professional. My salesman was Joe Bergeron. He was kind enough to pick me up at MSP airport to buy the car. My flight was over an hour late (damned airlines!) but Joe waited patiently. I recommend him. That dealer may have had another off lease Audi TDI. I think I saw a gray Q5 TDI listed on cars.com. It could be gone now. Don't know.

I'll be glad to answer questions or offer additional info.

I just ran the cars.com search again. Using upper price limit of $50k and 3.0 TDI Premium Plus parameters the search turned up 8 or 10 off-lease low mile '16 Audi Q5 TDIs. Audi of St Paul has a black one with only 220 miles. Asking price of $46,995.

I live in Texas and have no interest in a black car but that's a great car at a very good price.

There are others in other colors if anyone is interested. I didn't check but would guess all are service lease cars that were on short leases. I would not want a car that acquired 15k to 20k miles as a service loaner but I didn't see how 2800 or under 5k miles would hurt a car much except in some major cities where all roadways are broken concrete and would pound one apart.

    Thanks for the details, Harvey.

It sounds like you had a great experience. I'm glad to hear that.

I may have misunderstood your original post. I was under the impression that Audi purchased back (buyback) your Jetta TDI already and that is why you purchased the 2016 Q5 TDI.

Just an FYI per the Setttlment's website.... make sure you don't trade or sell your TDI before the settlement is complete to qualify for that compensation.

I've read the settlement offer and am familiar with the rules. I'll be keeping my VW TDI until VW implements the buy back program.

I bought the Audi Q5 because I want to drive another TDI and decided I was willing to pay for a much nicer car. I bought the Audi last week because I figure cars like the one I bought will be gone as soon as VW begins handing out the checks.
