New '12 Q5 owner

Hey fellas,

been a long time member/owner in the B7 A4 section, but just picked up a 2012 Q5 2.0T P+ the other day. So far loving it, only option missing is what seems to be a tech package that includes the MMI interface for color display and Nav. Might retrofit this down the road, already did it on my A4. Not sure if thats even possible, but will look into it.

Looks like this section of the forum should be just a knowledgeable and helpful. Came with some fun extras, Audi OEM cross bars with ski attachment and the all weather floor mats. A couple of things I was looking for. Been looking for a few months, wasn't our first color choice but was 2nd or 3rd. Too good of a deal to pass up. Plus silver hides dirt!

One thing I noticed is small oxidation contamination spots all over the car (little orange specks) but I have IronX and will be doing a treatment and clay for the whole car tonight to rectify that issue. Will then seal it up with Wolfgang paint sealant to keep it fresh. Overall in great shape. Already cleaned the interior thoroughly and conditioned the leather.

Anyways, a couple of pictures and questions.

First off, it has the S-line stainless steel bumper guard, but I can't find much info on the s-line packages available. Starting to think its badged oddly, since it should have a 3 spoke steering wheel if s-line correct? It does have the 19" wheels optioned from the factory, which I really do like. Needs some spacers for sure though.

Also, what is this gas nozzle light? I assume it means its just showing the stats for mpg which is obvious, but being cautious.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the dealer filled it up with regular and not premium. From what I have read the engine will detune itself until the tank is empty. Going to keep topping off with 93 to slowly bring the octane rating up though. Idiots, when I asked them about it it was all bah bah I didn't know it need premium derp derp derp.



Anywho....



First mod of course, think I will keep the Q5 for now. Don't want it too bare.

Congrats! It doesn't look like an S-Line. The bumper cover is an add-on that I also purchased on eBay to keep the bumper from getting scratched. I tried to find the clear film, but what I did find was very expensive. There are a few threads about adding the backup camera to the vehicles that didn't come with it, but the nav isn't really worth the cost when you can use a cell phone app. The maps are very expensive to update at the dealership ($700), but you can find alternatives to update them in the $200 price range.

Congrats and welcome! If you decide to retrofit a nav system, you could also consider an aftermarket installation, as the factory system in the Q5 is pretty dated. Here's a thread on the install of the Dynavin DVN-A5.

Thanks! A lot of people have had luck with dynavin in the b7 section. May look into that. The back up camera would probably be more necessary than the nav for sure. That is what I thought, the sline also appeared to have a black chin spoiler center piece. Doesn't seem to be many differences between them.

Any info on the fuel nozzle light thing?

Also, I don't see one. Is there a guide on retrofits or a list? I like the shifter from the 13 and up, so may look into that too.

i had a shop install an echomaster backup camera with an interface that uses the OEM components,
it has been flawless.
the camera could be better quality but im ok with just knowing i didnt run anyone or anything over.
approx 500 or so
also had dashcam and V1 hardwired at same time

I don't know of a consolidated list of retrofits, but for the back up camera, there are a few people who have installed one. Here's a tread from AW on it: Installed Rearview Camera Retrofit from Carsgadget.com

You can always go to the "mods" thread--lots of stuff listed there that'll give you ideas on what to do.

Had to go through a full paint decontamination both chemical and mechanical, lots of embedded iron in the clear coat. Corrected about 95% of the spots, doesn't seem to have any swirls that require a cut and polish.
