Hey guys, I figured this would be a good idea to not only introduce myself to the audizine community, but to keep track of my plans / progress on my b8 build.

To start, like many of you guys I came from VWs... I had my first Volkswagen at the age of 17 which was a b5.5 passat 1.8t 4-motion sedan, after that I moved onto a MK6 Jetta and that car was pretty much where I cut my teeth and started modifying cars.

What started out as a MK6 2.slow automatic Jetta S, turned into an independent rear suspension swapped, SEL trim swapped, bagged, shaved, awesome car. I had the car for three years and went through the stages like coilovers the first two years and then subtle modifications until it got heavy. The car was taken to SoWo, H2Oi, and a few local shows. I had a lot of fun with it and still to this day I miss it.

After attending SoWo 8 in Helen, I fell in love with the idea of owning an R32. Sure enough that august I pulled the trigger...

I'll try and keep this brief, but within one year, I bagged the R, took it to EUEX in Savannah and Waterfest in NJ. I had intentions on keeping the car forever since it was like the holy grail of VWs but little things kept going wrong with it that made me hate it more and more every day. Little things that could've been prevented if the previous owner didn't neglect them. Plus there wasn't a lot of modding potential with it without paying out the nose. I hit my one year mark with it 3 weeks ago and sold it shortly after.

While at waterfest, my fuel pump decided to go... Luckily I had a local friend who followed me out there in his b8 s4. Throughout the weekend while my car was down, he carted me around in his s4. To say I fell in love was an under statement... I wanted that car and I wanted it bad... Then reality set in and I soon figured out that I couldn't afford one. That's when I turned my search to a4's... I was set on a 2012 (post oil consumption but still b8 platform) ibis white, 6-speed, under 60k, for under 20 grand. After searching for a month country wide on cars.com and autotrader, nothing came up. I sold my R in the meantime and was carless for like a week. After making the 10 mile one way commute to work via bike for a week, I decided to clear "manual" from my search and see what would come up. Sure enough about 8 miles from my house, there was a 2012, ibis white, 55k, premium, $18k auto sedan. I drove it and I loved it. It reminded me of a nice version of my jetta and I totally have a soft spot in my heart for that car, so the trigger was pulled.

I'm currently in the process of picking up some INDs for it from louquattro on here. As far as suspension, I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. At this point in my life, I want a fun daily driver. I'm considering tunes as well but I'm not sure on what to go with. So far I'm liking the idea of Unitronic. We will see!

Nice! Cool backstory and it sounds like the A4 will suit your needs well. All of the major tune companies (APR, GIAC, Uni) are relatively similar so if you're just going stage 1 or 2 I'd say to base it on the most convenient installer. If you have plans of going K04 then I think only APR and GIAC have tunes for that.

    Thanks everyone!

I'd like to go stage 2 with the intake and downpipe. I liked the idea of APR until I researched other tunes. It seems fishy to me that their stage 2 tune gets you 302hp on a K03 when everyone else advertises around 265-270.

Thank you everyone for the positive welcome and feedback.

As tradition, I will be at H2Oi with it this October. I'm hoping to figure out some suspension before then and have it started. I'm looking forward to checking out other B8 builds while there.

It's actually not a k03 but an ihi jh5 turbo... I was a skeptic at first ..but I am enjoying the apr dp and stg 2 package... Transforms the car... I believe they advertise a little less like 284 on your b8 platform and not 302.. that's for the b8.5s... I plan to have some dyno runs taken after my exaust install real soon....

Highly recommend H&r coilovers along with their swaybars, an excellent package!

Ah I see I see. That makes sense then.

A buddy of mine had an H&R cup kit and I was pretty impressed with the build and ride quality. Part of me would like to go with another air kit because I'm partial to airlift after having two bagged cars, but then the practical part of me says coilovers with a mild drop. I'm gonna skim the market and see what's out there for these cars first.

Thanks dude! They were called VSP Type 1's. A smaller company based out of California. One of the best companies I've dealt with too. If they made any of their cast wheels in a 19" that would probably be my top choice for the Audi.

    Small Update...

Unfortunately the deal I had with Lou-quattro fell through because his replacement wheels won't be ready in time...

BUT! I did find a set lurking around on vortex... They aren't the 19x10 squared that I would have liked and they don't have the 255/35's that I wanted, but they'll do. Managed to get them dirt cheap, so I can't complain.

    19x8.5 et35 with 235/35 Nankangs
    19x10 et35 with 255/30 Nankangs

I figure I'll ride these out for the rest of the season and then in the spring try and up size the tires. The whole unreliable stance thing is starting to get to me, hence wanting a meatier tire.

Also, how do you guys feel about the eBay b8.5 automatic shift nobs? They're pretty cheap, like $80 shipped and I've gotten lucky with eBay parts before.

Were those wheels in the southern NY/northern NJ area? I met a guy with the same wheels in that staggered setup last year.

Another small update on the b8...

So I had the day off today and technically it's the last full day off I have with school going back into session on monday...

I've been telling myself that I wasn't gonna bag the car, but I got antsy and wired the management.

Still needs some tweaking. I'm not sure on where I wanna mount the controller but at least it works.

This is also the first of three bagged cars where I wired the ignition to the fuel pump fuse. Kinda cool seeing the manifold light up when I hit the locks.

Still trying to figure out the b8.5 shift knob thing too. I can't stand the stock b8 knob. I might just bite the bullet and buy the ebay one.

Hey man, analog isn't that bad! V2 glitches every now and then and sometimes I wish I had a more simple set up.

Update: It wouldn't be a VW/AUDI without something breaking within the first month... I noticed yesterday that my driver rear door is starting to not unlock with the fob and door buttons. Sounds like an actuator, gonna see if it gets any worse in the next few weeks before I replace it.

Also, bought the eBay b8.5 shift knob. Will update with a quality review when I get it in the mail.

    Greaaaat.

The set of IND's that I paid for down in Florida turned out to be a bust. The seller quoted me a buy price including shipping. I sent him the money and once he got a shipping cost he basically refunded me.

    Rant /

If you're post something for sale or if you sell that item, actually sell it. Don't change your mind after the money is in your pocket or if the buyer is waving dollar bills in your face.

This is the second set of INDs that has fallen through because of the seller backing out.

    / end rant.

The air supplies come in tomorrow. Depending on what time FedEx drops by, I might start the job.

In the meantime, if anyone has IND non-twist
19x10 leads, send them my way... My 2001 Audi Monoblocks were easier to find than these. Jeeesh.

Yeah I told him about greyhound and everything... I guess he went out and bought boxes / packing supplies for $30 a piece and he told me that he thought shipping would be $50 per wheel including supplies. That leaves you $20 in shipping costs per wheel to go from FL to NY, yeah right. It's not my fault that he paid top dollar for boxes and was naive when he sold them to me. He also postponed shipping them for 2 weeks after I sent the money because it was raining and he couldn't put them in the back of his truck. At this point I'm just happy to have my money back.

Started the air install today. Everything seemed to go pretty well. The triple square lower control arm bolt will probably give me nightmares for weeks to come. God did that thing suck... Gonna finish the rears tomorrow. If this car is anything like a VW, it should be fairly quick....

    For now,

Yeah, no... The rears were 10000x worse than the fronts. I can't believe you have to drop the whole rear subframe just to pull the springs... Whatever though, I'm happy that its done! It looks a million times better. This is also my first airlift performance set and I'm a believer. Just put about 30 miles on it driving to the city for the concert and it still rides like butter. Ah I love it.

Yea rears are a pain in the ass. Suspension work is my least pleasant thing to do so I found a shop to do mine for 400. But I love how these cars look bagged on oem wheels

Be cheaper finding a salvage yard with a B8. Ecs is such a rip off in my opinion.

I thought that it's a euro option that we didn't get here? Idk if I could find it at a yard unless it came on specific US models.

And I know, I hate ECS as well but in this case, they give you everything you need.

Wheels came in yesterday. Loaded them into the back of my SUV and dropped them off this morning for tires. Sure enough somewhere in the process whether it was MHT or UPS, one of the boxes was dropped and it bent one of the wheels. Since I didn't even open the boxes I had no idea until my buddy who mounted the tires called and told me. ORT is gonna send out another wheel Monday ( I think ). Leaving for H2Oi on thursday. Andrew said he was gonna try and see what he could do. Hopefully it comes in time and I can mount them before I leave. If not, I'll be rolling on my stocks all weekend :(

I agree. One of my favorite wheels on these cars. Unfortunately these are the twist. I tried finding the originals but ran out of luck. After having 2 sets pretty much bought (one set even paid for!) And them falling through, I just settled for a new set of the twists.

I'm like jonesin to have these on for h2o, I've got my fingers crossed that Andrew at ORT can pull some strings and get a replacement wheel out to me in time.

Thanks dude! TBH, I only went the air route because I've had 2 bagged cars already and I had most of the air essentials minus the struts for this car. It worked out where it was actually cheaper to get used air stuff rather than to buy KW V2's. Ideally, I'll keep this car for another year or so and then make the switch to an S4. That car will be on coils...

But yeah to make a long story short, these cars look great on any suspension.
