Still loving my B6 after 10 years!

This has been a great car for me and I plan on keeping it. I am going to buy another car, but I just can't sell this one. It has been amazing so far and I want to have over 200,000 miles on it at some point. Here are a couple of pictures. I know it isn't a big deal to most, but I just love it. It has a APR 1+ which gives it a little more power. I am getting a Porsche 911 as my new car, but I will always love this car. Audi is moving away from a manual transmission, so that is an issue for me. I wanted an S3, but I don't want an auto. I am too old to change to an auto. Anyway, here are a couple of pics. It has under 150K miles, so I guess it is just getting broken in, or at least I hope so. Still the original clutch, but I think that is very common. Probably will never need replaced even living in an extremely hilly area. Not to mention pot holes, snow and a ton of salt. Car looks great underneath as well. Don't try that with other cars.

Great looking car! I haven't had mine anywhere near as long as you but everytime I get it in I think to myself damn this is a beautiful car. It's far from a sports car but it's all around a great car. The interior I think is great, the exterior styling is clean.. just a great car to fall in love with... congrats on reaching 150,000miles and congrats on the Porsche. The Porsche might make it difficult to tack on the remaining 50k mukes. I agree it's a shame they they are getting away from the manual transmission. I have yet to drive the new automatic cars but fwiw my wife and I who both love manual compare it as you drive a manual transmission car and you ride in an automatic.. something about shifting through the gears that just makes you feel like your in tune with the car. Call me crazy..
    Again congrats.

Every time I see a silver b6 I always wondered how Audi screwed up the color match on the front and rear bumpers - none the less beautiful ultra sport!

    What year 911 you getting?

Thanks. I also wanted to mention something that is amazing to me. This car is dead quiet! Not one rattle or odd noise of any kind. I live in Pittsburgh people. That is amazing to me. It drives like new STILL!!!!! We are lucky to have access to such a car. Not sure if the Porsche 911 will live up to this car or not. Sure for looks and speed, but I am talking about getting me around in a very consistent car that I enjoy driving. The stereo is also very good. I have an MKII with Bose and it works great after I did the wire jump. Everything works still and works as new. Lucky? Don't know, but I am happy.

The front and rear bumpers were resprayed due to the idiot kid that owned the car before me. No real damage, just scratched. Hard to match silver, but I agree it looks off in some lighting. lol I can live with it at this time, but you never know. I like my cars near perfect to a point.

I am looking at an '09 or earlier 911. I don't need an S or 4S, but maybe. The cars are fast enough after '09, so that is plenty for a non track car. I just enjoy driving and not slowing down around bends. Hoping to get something this fall or winter. I think I will. I just can't sell my B6 though. Just a great car in every way. I have owned a TON of cars over the years. Mercedes, BMW's, Alfa, Vette, Caddie, 280zx and more. This car is just great. How about when you drive in the rain? Talk about stable. Nothing like it.

Well, I'll put a twist on your thread title: still loving my 10-year old B6 after 1 year!

I've poured too much money into it already in the short amount of time, but I really like the car and I'm bringing it back up to my standards, which like you has to be near perfect. So, that's the costly part as I'm fixing previous owners' mistakes. But having a garage for the first time in my life, I love the learning process. I hope to learn enough in the next 3-4 years that I may just learn how to swap an engine and a manual tranny into a B8 down the line. That's my hobbyist ambition.

Same here! My wife nor I want an automatic and it will be increasingly more difficult to find an Avant with a manual, which is a shame indeed.

Today's thought of a great project. B8 or newer a4 avant with S4 powertrain. Obviously with no B8 or newer a4 avant here in canukistan that's likely never going to happen unless I import or move.....

That is exactly what I hope can be done down the road. This thread is an inspiration, but seeing the amount of work and knowing how life happens, it will likely never work out, but I'm keeping the dream alive.

Sorry for OT diversion. Back to B6 loving...

I believe it is simply due to the shape/curves of the transition of the body to bumpers.
My white paint also is a little off in the rear, hoping to change that with freah paint.

man, if exterior of my car looked as good as my interior my car would be perfect...between the recaros, s4 headliner, s4 door cards, trim, new HVAC, podi, s4 gauges and RNS-e i'm afraid to add up what i've spent on my interior...i'm still not done with it yet either...

next up is some suspension work then i'm going to build up my motor in preparation for a gtrs eliminator...i want a bullet proof build through so i think i'm going to do a bit more than rods since i have ~160k on the motor...

i feel you though, b6 for life!

Well not a new 911, but an '09 or newer. I don't want to take that big of a hit. lol I always wanted a Porsche and tend to keep cars if I really like them.

I want to point out, I could get a newer Audi, but the design of this one is really classic to me. It is so smooth looking and more pleasing than the new Audi's to my eye. Sure I was looking at 2013 or newer Audis, but just wanted something different. If my Audi has an issue, I can drive the Porsche, so that will be more relaxing. I am really hoping to drive this Audi a very long time. I use Castrol full synthetic and always have. My car seems to like it and I change the oil every 5,000 miles. Had to replace the valve cover gasket and had a look inside and it looked very clean and neat. I had to replace some air-conditioning part for around $300 or something like that. It was a long time ago. I really can't think of other issues at the moment. Oh the fuel pump went and my fuel gauge has never quite been reliable since then. My stock wheels I still have but they don't look very good, so I purchased the factory rotor wheels that fit really well. Running 19's isn't too bad. I know to be careful and so far so good. Tires are 235/35's. I think it looks pretty clean and simple.

Anyway, I love these cars. Love how they shift and especially love how they drive in the rain. I heard the new Audis aren't as good when it comes to the AWD system, but I haven't researched it all that much. Enjoy.

Another USP in great shape, love it! Keep it never let it go lol.

Definitely inspiring seeing these type of threads. Thanks for sharing this.

I too have a USP that was used and abused by the previous owner and I must say with the help of this site I think I can get it back to near perfect condition.

Still enjoying my USP Avant. 8 years and running strong. It's a 2004, bought it in 2008 and I'm the second owner. Upgrades have been slow and steady and as per a discussion with evo_ski, have really enjoyed watching and experiencing the changes over time and will definitely be the last owner of this car.

Always wondered what those wheels would look like on a B6. Very nice.

After having replaced coolant pipe, my wife asked me how long was I planning to keep car? Going on 8yrs now. I told her forever.

The body styling and interior is clean and doesn't get dated. Wonder if both the styling and size of B6 prompted the A3 Sedan.

I feel the same way about the S3. Perhaps in a couple years after s3's plummet in value and there are a bunch of totaled Golf R's around, it will be easy to pick up a manual trans for the MQB. I'd imagine it would be a pretty straightforward swap.

I thought it would be fun to update this old post of mine. I read oldguy got another car, but kept his B6. Well I almost bought a Porsche and even had a PPI done on a 991 Cab, but by the time I would have gotten the car to my spec the price was super high. I then turned to looking at S4's. Went to look at one with a manual at a nearby dealership and it was sold before I got there, but test drove a new A5 manual. I started thinking about S5's for the first time and that same day I found one locally and bought it. I still can't believe how fast it happened. Here is my new car. I still have my '05 USP manual, but I am actually going to sell it and this will be my new daily. I think I got pretty lucky to realize that an S5 is a prefect compromise car at this time of my life. The p-car can come later.

Its because of different material. The doors, hood and fenders are made of metal while the front and rear bumper are made of glass fiber or something, not metal at least. A friend if mine tried to respray his silver USP bumpers, but could not match the colour any better because of that. It has bugged me too since i got the car, but the car looks too good for me to really care that much And i agree, great looking USP
