    Seat backs falling out

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all. Due to the lovely Georgia heat this summer, whatever adhesive that was used to hold the backs of my front 2 seats in place has melted, resulting in both seat backs hanging off. They fall further back, as I like to drive fast with my windows down:P so here is my question: I know there are airbags on the sides of the seats, but if I use another adhesive to reattach the seat backs, will they in any way affect the air bags deploying in an emergency? Any feedback is appreciated!

Happened to my A6 in the Arizona heat, I just got some gorilla glue from homedepot and reattached both with no problem.

To make sure that the glue bonded well, I wedged a piece of about 3ft wood against/between the back seat and slid the front seats back such that they firmly against the piece of wood. (Make sure you cushion both ends so you don't dent your seats)...I left it for the night and walah! It attached firmly. Good luck

I had a similar thing happen to me and it tore part of the leather. Does anyone know if you can get this part separately? Searching eBay now...

    Seat backs falling out

This is a common issue in climates where it gets hot. My driver seat did this a couple of years ago. My fix was to use sneaker glue. It held up well for the part couple of years but it too is starting to desperate. My passenger seat had depressed as well. I am going to try the "gorilla glue" this time around.

I just had the same thing happen to me yesterday. I noticed that the front passenger seat back was coming off and I tried to remove the metal clips and reattach to the seat back but had a hard time getting them to go back in to the plastic section that holds the clips into place. I was thinking about buying new metal clips and reattach it to the seat backs. Anyone fix it by replacing the metal clips that snap it into place?

After having my car in GA, I have done this for both by driver and passenger seatbacks. I fixed the pass @ the dealer and fixed the driver @ home.

Passenger: it cost $180 @ dealer. They replaced plastic clips (unnecessary because those were not broken). And re-glued seatback @ top.

Driver: Funny enough (shows how shitty Audi Santa Monica is) when I was going to fix my driver I asked if they could/how much it would be to fix seatback. Audi said, “They do not have the necessary tools to do a fix and they could send it out to an upholstery shop in the area, but no guarantees it would be fixed”. I laughed, I had had a dealer fix it for me. I didn’t like dealers to being with, but this was BS. Anyway, I had bought gorilla glue before and was going to do it myself – so I took that route anyway.

    Fix:
1.) Buy Gorilla Glue (2 tube epoxy like this: https://www.grainger.com/product/4YK...160822172155:s
    2.) Squirt/Mix in small container
3.) Spread mix onto internals (I did both seat and seatback side for safety
4.) Hard part (doing solo) Put 1 plank of wood across the rear seat (back of knee area) - this is so there is no creases/rips in the leather. Then position a cardboard box in-between seat/wood and seatback. Move front seat backwards to put pressure on box (I used a lot - it crinkled the cardboard). Leave overnight. Bam, fixed.

Metal clips. I am sure you can buy them separately, but I do not know the part #. If yours are not broken, there is no need to get new ones.

Both look quality you can’t tell any difference. Both have held up to date.

Thank you guys so much for the advice! I had hoped to fix this with some 3m tape I've used for other things, but they just fell back off! Ironically, my dad just bought some gorilla glue to have around the house, so I'll be doing this tomorrow most likely!

I used 2 part epoxy on mine last summer and just used some painters tape around the seat for 12 hours to keep the back in place, haven't had an issue since.

this is an ongoing saga with me. I fix, it separates, I fix, it separates, I fix it separates. Perfect excuse to replace the stock seats with a set of S6 seats! Kicking myself for not jumping on that set that was in the classifies!

You find a set of S6 seats you'll be lucky, I've been looking and have never seen them outside of European Ebay listings.

I had the same issue with my car and instituted a fix some 3 months ago (and had to make some adjustments tonight)

seat back came off from driver side so used https://www.amazon.com/3M-08008-Blac.../dp/B00063X38M and let it set for about 15 minutes. Slapped that back on like nobody's bidnes and it's been sitting pretty for the last 3 moths in Norcal summer heat (100F days multiple). Wasn't too happy with fix because there was a gap at upper edge of seat cover. Tried to pry the back off to no avail. I managed to get four fingers between seat and seat back and couldn't get the seatback to budge (and I was trying - I could feel seatback torquing under pressure). Had to eventually put screwdriver between seatback clips and move it out of the receiver to get seatback off. I ended up bending the ears on the clips out further to make sure that the clips fit fuller into the seat receptacles to ensure that the seatback fit flush with the seat - and it did. I then did the same with the passenger side as it, too, had come loose.

the 3m stuff worked wonders - it sets quickly and it resists me manhandling it months later when I'm trying to readjust it

Is that basically windshield sealer? I've seen that recommended before. Audi's fix was a $40 bottle of rear view mirror glue. I really need to get on this before it gets too cold for anything to cure.
