Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 - Curb Protection

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    All,

My P Zero's are at around 6/32 and getting fairly noisy and harsh. I'm thinking about purchasing a new set of DWS 06 tires next month.

For those who own them, I have a few general questions:

-How much curb protection do these tires provide? The current P Zero's over hang the rim by a little bit (I also like the look of that). Only asking since I had the original DWS tires on another car and it seemed like the rim protruded out a bit more that the tire.

-If I'm buying new tires, should I go ahead and move up to a 265/35/20? Current wheels are the SLine 20" Titanium 5 Arm Rotor.

-If you have DWS 06 tires on the SLine 20" Titanium 5 Arm Rotor wheels, could you post a picture.

I added a couple pictures to demonstration what I'm talking about in terms of curb protection or stretch etc.

    I appreciate the assistance.

I just purchased a set of continental DW extreme and are very happy with them they offer a considerably smoother quieter ride than the Pirelli P Zeros I had on my car previously, got to say though there offer very little in the way of rim protection unlike the Pirellis. I am very happy with the continentals, I can't speak for the DWS though, I would assume there are very similar mind, but you know what they say about assumption...

    Cheers

I had PSS on my S4 and got to say I thought there were a very good tire very sticky, but the continentals are the quietest and most comfortable tire I have rode on to date, I will definitely be buying them again when the time comes.

    This.
Unless you need snow or no-season tires the Super Sport really is the best tire I've ever had on any car I've ever owned in over 15 years. Just to emphasize this point I bought a set a year ago and stored them when Tirerack told me they were not going to make them in my size any more...that's how much I like them. Actually can't wait to get them on.

Wait until you get some miles on them and the tread gets worn a bit, you'll change your tune.

I bought my S5 brand new last February and changed the stock Dunlop SportMaxxx GT with DWS06 tires. The rim protectors are about the same as the rim protectors of the Pirelli PZeros in your photos. My tire size is 235-35-19. Not sure if the rim protectors on your tire size will be the same or more prominent. Best to check with you local tire retailer.

Plus 1. I get about 25,000 miles out of a set. I also liked them better than the set of Continental Extereme DW tires that I had.

I have 265/35's but am running replica 20x9...it is my understanding that while you CAN put a 265 on an 8.5, 255 is the most appropriate for the 8.5 width wheel. I am putting my stock 20x8.5 back on with the Pirellis. I have a much more aggressive 35 offset and the Nittos i bought, while great handling and mostly quite, they have 0 rim protection. Not a big deal as i never scrape rims, but I do love the look and protection just in case. The 265 looks fantastic, but every .5 inch you add adds more tire to transmit more road information - feel and noise, back to the cabin. I preferred the ride of the 255...so i'm just putting on 15mm spacers instead of 12.5. Will give me the flush look of my 20x9 35 offset, but the ride comfort of stock.

I also had PSS on 2 cars - switched out and put them on my 2013 370Z roadster (incredibly noisy even after sound deadening added) and 2015 Q70S - initially it was night and day....but as one poster said - after miles they start to transmit noise just like any other tire.

Maybe try the Continental - as I hear they are pretty bulletproof regarding noise. Not sure about traction or length of mileage.

    I really appreciate everyone's replies.

I do tend to stay away from the curbs, so the protection aspect isn't nearly as important. I just prefer the look it provides. I had a set of Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 on my wife's old car that were all around great. I just didn't like the nearly straight sidewall that made it look like the wheel stuck out more than the tire.

I'll look at both the PSS and DWS06 to see which tire can provide most aspects that I am wanting. I'll also stick with 255, Parkstr8 noted.

Anyone with DWS06 on 20" have a picture they can share?

I know these aren't the 06's but hopefully it can give you some idea what there might look like.

20x9 mounted with DWS06 275/35/20. Def provides curb protection. I would have gone 265 tires honestly but had these ordered for a set of 10.5 wide wheels that did not fit over calipers despite gteed fitment by retailer.

I decided to purchase the DWS 06 tires. I'll have them installed next week.

    Thanks everyone for the input!

    ^ this

I try to avoid parallel parking mostly to decrease my chances of curbing my wheels. I'll pay for a parking garage over parking in downtown Seattle any day.

I had a new set of DWS06 tires installed last week. So far they match all previous reviews.

-Due to the sidewalls being softer than the PZero, they are slightly less confident when pushed hard. However, you quickly get used to the change and it stops being an issue.

-They are slightly more quite than the PZero tires. Not as much as I thought, but definitely a bit better.

-Bumps are still fairly noticeable, not much additional cushion. I can't really expect that to change. I have 20" wheels, sport suspension, and the roads are terrible here in OK.

-Full confidence when driving during heavy rain and through standing water.

-It's not cold enough for snow. It'll be a few months before I can test that aspect.

Overall, I'm currently very happy with the tires. I'll post an actual review after I've had them for a few more miles. Maybe around 10K miles.

    Thanks!
