I though the redesigned model was going to release later this year as a 2017 model.

The new 5 will be first available in Europe this winter (Q1 2017). It will arrive here in the US a bit after that.

It will be sold as a MY2017 in Europe, but MY2018 here, due to differences in regulations; since we can start selling MY2018 models on 1/1/2017
