so, i had to extend the power socket harness to do my b7 console swap...

the power socket keeps cutting in and out...it charges my phone for like two seconds, stops charging for a few seconds, then starts charging again?

was the gauge of wire i used too thick for the grey/blue wire??? that is the only reason i can think of why it would keep cutting in and out...i already checked the fuses...i used 16 gauge wire to extend the harness since that was all i had lying around...

Cigarette lighter socket plugs used for cell phone chargers are notoriously known to frequently have a poor connection in the socket, especially if the cig lighter is dirty from ever being used for lighting cigs. You can try bending the the curved contact in the plug, or tabs in the socket to press tighter in the socket when the plug is inserted. Sometimes the only remedy is a different charger with a different brand and plug assembly detail. Almost all cig lighter chargers are iffy when inserted into a cig lighter socket, some more or less than others.

so i think i have some of my wires crossed...

i checked and i have brown to brown, red to red and grey to grey...i just noticed that the blue led that shows my charger is connected turns OFF when my headlights turn ON...

similar to the problem illustrated in this video posted by another AZer...

which leads me to believe that the wiring for the b7 lighter is different from the b6 wiring...i'm going to try swapping wiring by connecting the red to grey and grey to red...my stupid question of the day is brown would be ground for both the b6 & b7 right?

Solid brown seems to be universally ground, at least in my vag experience. Brown with a tracer isn't, though.

problem solved, swapped outside wires...it seems the b6 harness has the outer wires reversed when compared to the b7 harness...
