Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guy and gals, I've never posted any of my vehicles, but thought it was about time.

I work A LOT (70+ hours a week in my families seasonal restaurant), and winter is my down time, so ill be updating over the next few months...

    Newly acquired...
    1999 2.0 stroker with a elim 2871r
    35K on the rebuild.
    new (stock) head
    ABA Crank
    Scat rods
    Lowered compression
Lightened flywheel with stage 3 Southbend
    Walbro Fuel pump
    FSI coils
    H&R Ultra Lows
    630 injectors
    CTS intercooler
UM tune (need a updated one)
    Adjustable fpr
JHM SS w/weighted knob (I need stabilizer bushing for the "Trio")
    s4 uprights and front brakes
    034 engine, trans, diff mounts
upper and lower strut tower braces
    snub mount
    Prefacelift hatch
Front and rear Control Arms done
    blah blah blah blah

    Did some stuffs-
    1 piece headlights
LED bulbs in headlights (not too sure about this yet)
    Aligned bumper
    Interior led bulbs
    AMG wheels on

    Need to do some stuffs,
    Full 3" exhaust
take out 71r, replace with full frame billet wheel upgrade (Paging Arnold!) with tial 38mm external wastegate (have)
    s4 skirts on (have)
    lower it about an inch
    remove 10mm spacers in rear
Swap black leather with checkered sport cloths (have)
    double din swap (have)
    LC-1 wideband (have)
034 rear sway with brackets (have)
Find a solution for w/m (looking for new tune)
    Track down my boost leak
    Clean the maf
    TB adjustment
    Replace the ac fan.

    Then build the head...

She is not my DD, but it tends to happen that way when work is 10 min away.

    Cheers!

Let a "buddy" (not anymore) borrow it for a week while his car was being worked on. He was t-boned. I found out later that he was intoxicated. Passenger side doors are wrecked as well as the b-pillar. Bought it back from insurance for $210....now it's a full parts car.

Nice this car has a lot done to it! I wonder what the PO was thinking when he was doing a stroker but with an eliminator setup lol. What will you do with the lower door moldings as you put the S4 skirts on? I am putting mine on as well soon.

Quite a few people go this route. Sometimes stroker parts are cheap and they plan to upgrade the turbo later. Not everyone can drop motor, and by money at once and this is the correct way around to do it. Ray who has a 2.0 and same turbo says its a very fun street car setup.

What's wrong with a stroker and a eliminator? You can do a lot with Elim setup if you do it right. Something like gtx2971r (which will fit) would really match nicely to 2.0 motor. There is also gt3076r option with eliminator. Turbo fitment on the a4 has always been a bit of an issue and a turbo in the stock location works nicely with dp and exhaust options.

For a daily driver a gtx2871r Elim with a 2.0 build would be bonkers.

Im not hating on elims, I have one! I just thought why not extract the most out of your setup by going full frame and not with just a bigger elim. Bigger eliminators must be laggy? I like mine and definitely want more but not by going bigger.

If you start a build by adding a 3" exhaust, intercooler upgrade, and have a well sorted intake and want more hp then going with a Elim allows you to keep those parts without added costs. Some are laggy, some are really laggy. The thing with Elim builds is most use off the shelf tunes instead of custom tunes. A custom tune will typically show significant gains on the left side of the dyno which helps with lag.

There is Elim setup that makes 400awhp and is no more laggy then a full frame. The stock intake setup is the best setup unless you run a maf less setup.

I already have a t4 manifold, external wastegate (going to be dumped), a 3" highflow cat downpipe (3 o2 bungs), and the 034 3" to 3" inlet pipe to get on there.

I'm waiting until my new house is finalized (with more than enough garage room) until I start to install all my full frame parts.

That's what I was thinking, gtx2871 full frame with the 2.0 build

Thanks man. Already settled on a price for the new one, just gotta find a buyer for the old one. I have some fish in the line so keep your rings crossed lol

Garage is detached, concrete floor, fits 6 cars easily, 2nd story loft, and a separate entrance for a workshop.
It only has a single garage door, that'll have to change haha

Very nice. Work space makes all the difference

Sounds like my setup 5 car, 3 garage door, 2x built in rooms one pretty big lounge, other workshop/clean room bathroom with shower. Detached and gated behind the house.

T4 manifold? I haven't seen one that size yet. What's your goals for it? If your going with that big of a flange I would shoot for a gtx3071r. The gt28 turbine will limit it's capabilities but give you a bit better spool. If your going 2.0 I would jump for the gt3071r over the gt28. The gt3071r will flow 50 lb min so it's no slouch but the gtx3071r is nasty....

Can't wait to see your final product. I have 2001 avant that has some title issues due to the person that sold it to me but I have some plans for it that include a gtx2867r. Mine is silver but I love the black.

Whoops. T3 my bad. I haven't built the head yet, so I'm worried about getting a turbo too big. I'm looking to have a quick spooling set up, but maximising my current 2.0. Plus I don't wanna change my clutch.

I've always loved your set ups man. I've learned a lot from you, so, thank you.

People confuse lag with useable powerband.
Driving around town in 3rd gear yields an instant 20psi with the 2871r elim/2.0 combo.

If I were to do anything differently, it would be to go with an efr or maybe a gtx turbo. I'd keep it around 400 whp and move the power as far left as possible. I rarely drive on the highway and having a car that can rev to the moon does me no good.

Ether way this car will be a blast if you build it the way you say.

Thanks man, just read through your entire thread. I'm trying to get in touch with arnold at pag parts for his billet wheel upgrade on my full frame 28rs (elim is on the car, I have the 28rs collecting dust, which was from a previous vehicle)

Any reason why you stuck with the elim rather than the full frame?

I had the elim before the stroker build. Then I decided after it was all together that I wanted to build a track day car (e46 m3). If I kept the car I was going to go with a ppt kit and either go with one of his turbos or an efr.

Arnold is very responsive on Facebook btw. That's how I talked to him most of the time.

There is a ppt kit with a 5858 precision turbo that may still be for sale on here. That turbo was a little big for what I wanted but I was thinking of buying it, selling the 5858 and going with a billet 3071 or something.

With the Elim you can still run the gtx line of turbos so it still allows you room to grow in both spool and hp potential. Actually most of the gtx turbos are sold minus the turbine housing. If you have gt2871r elim you can swap in any gt28 turbo (excluding some of the oddball gt2860r turbos). The larger gt3071r turbos use the oddball gt30 turbines which are 56.5mm major instead of 60mm major. In the gtx line they are called gtx2971r or gtx2976r. If you have gt3071r Elim you can mate up gtx29 to it as long as you get the corresponding turbine since there is 2 different gt3071r-wg turbines. There is 90 trim and a 84 trim wg turbine and the full frame gt30 60mm major is also 84 trim. These turbos have a lot of potential.

If I was going 2.0 and did not want to go efr and wanted to avoid an external wastegate I would go gt3071r-wg with the .64 t25 housing and smaller 84 trim turbine. This turbo can make 350awhp with ease and allow more hp potential over the 2871r while still spooling good.

That you for the information fellas. Really appreciated.

I'm having some issues with hitting full boost and a steady idle.
Full boost comes on at about 4300-4500 rpm and the idle is at 1200 rpm.

Boost leak? Or just maf cleaning and throttle body alignment?
Not on startup. But idle is a little uneven.

So should I stick with my Apr manifold and custom downpipe? Or grab the spa mani and downpipe in the classifieds?

I will be running the 3" tip from 034

Spa mani is terrible imo. Cracks and has no runners its just wide open inside.

Since you have a Apr manifold I would run that as its known to be one of the best manifolds.

No idea with that turbo. I know people are fitting efrs with that mani, you might have to run a cobra head then custom tip after that

Thank you. I'll get everything fitted, and then start building the inlet pipe. I've seen some Cobra head setups.

So currently I have the UM stage 3 tune, and have seen similar sized turbos use the same, should I be OK? I'd really like to step up to the maestro suite, but I have no idea how to tune.

United stage 4 might be better considering ur mods. Aeb might be different than awm which I have united 3 on with a 2871elim. I would contact them and see what they can do as far as a custom file for ur setup

Don't they run a 3.5" pro maf? I'll shoot them an email Monday.

The 4 does I believe. I think ray ran stage 4 on his. It should be a cheaper upgrade price. Another option is Kompressed custom bt file. I would probabaly pony up for maestro however. I'm sure someone on here could send u a maestro file for ur setup.

I'd like to eventually get tuned for cams, larger TB and whatnot. Will UM be able to do stuff like that or is that just maestro? I've heard kompressed, and he is fairly local to me

I believe united can do a custom file for your setup, how extreme they go I have no idea. Ian(kompressed) is good at custom stuff but overall I think maestro is the best option for all that.

Dan on here is aeb with a efr with cams, tb, ect and I think he did his own tune with maestro

Um can tune for pretty much whatever you want. They also do dyno tunes if you are close to them.

Also like tar said, I was running the stage 4 on a 2.0/2871 build. Tune was fine for me and headache free. I was looking into custom when I had the thought of building a head and running meth...then I sold the car.

You'll def want the stage 4. The stage 3 is really for stock motors couples with eliminators/franken turbos.

When i went from 3 to 4 it was a whole new animal.
