Hmmmm, 2.37" Milltek vs 2.5" AWE. What size is the standard downpipe and Capristo? Unlike turbo cars where bigger is better, an na motor can benefit from smaller diameter, it keeps the heat in so keeps the gas velocity higher.
Milltek have the highest gains I've seen on this motor at 20hp compared to Capristo's 14hp but I wonder if the restriction in the standard downpipe is holding the Capristo back by 6hp?

I would say yes. The gains are to be made in the DPs.

Have the capristo gains been independent?

No but I trust their figures, one of the highest quality exhaust manufactures wouldn't lie about their numbers. I keep meaning to get mine back on the dyno whilst the weather is cool but the gains after installing the exhaust felt similar to the intake on my seat of the pants dyno.

I prefer the one piece design of the Milltek over the AWE, more joints means more problems but I definitely want to keep a resonator on the system and the AWE seems to have the advantage in a larger resonator over the Milltek.

Just checked out the pricing with the only AWE dealer in Australia for a set of res downpipes.... $1869.00. For "Dyno proven max gains of 8 horsepower and 16 ft-lb of torque at the crank" I assume Miltek's product is similarly overpriced rated?

This is far from the 20whp reported by DeanoC. Interested to see which way you go with this James (2.37" Milltek vs 2.5" AWE).

It sounds about right quoting 8hp, Capristo quote 14hp and Miltltek been proven at 20hp so there's no reason the downpipes can't give 8hp.

Milltek wouldn't quote me on just the downpipes, they said they are part of a full system so we've only got the ridiculously over priced AWE pipes to go with. I will look at getting something made locally, I'm not paying 1/3 the price of a Capristo system for the very average quality AWE pipes.

A quick update on the 034 mount inserts. Had them fitted up today and although I've only done a few km's with them, initial impressions are very good. They certainly perform as advertised, firming up shifts and have removed almost any slop/movement from the transmission and diff. Everything just feels more solid. TBH, I really didn't think they're was anything wrong with the factory setup but this mod has improved on an already great drivetrain. I haven't noticed any additional noise or vibration yet, this may change with more driving but so far they seem excellent.

So after a few more km's at varying speeds, the inserts do in fact introduce a little more noise (diff whine) into the cabin. This starts to become noticeable from approx 70km/h and increases in volume to 100km/h. Now keep in mind I'm being hyper critical of this and actively listening for any changes, which are subtle but they are there. It's certainly not a deal breaker and under normal driving conditions (radio on, maybe talking to a passenger, etc) it's not something you'd notice. Beyond 100km/h other factors like tire roar and wind noise essentially drown out any noticeable diff whine. For me, the benefits to the feel of the drivetrain outweigh the marginal increase in NVH. Worthwhile mod IMO.

This is pretty much what I suggested, a lot of guys on here will say they notice no negatives on fitting a solid bush and only quote the positives, I felt it does take away slightly from the experience of a long distance cruise, the car is no longer a silent cruiser and these do introduce cabin noise.
Great if you only blast around town, they become irritating after an hour of cruising, it takes away from the quality feel of the car having a whining diff.
I may experiment with the Powerflex polyurethane only insert and see how it goes, or a may just part company with the car and wait for the next gen RS to come on line.

Very nice. How does the lightweight TT drive in comparison to the RS Sports tank.

Beautiful pics, PLAYRZ. Especially like the power plant shot, but I'm biased since I work with generation. Great color

That's a pretty good description already. The highlights of the TT for me would be how light it feels and the steering. You really get to experience the benefits of weight reduction stepping into a TT after driving the RS5. The TT accelerates and stops surprisingly well and changes direction like a fly! I was genuinely impressed after the first few time of driving it. Visibility is poor, it's infinitely impracticable and the seats aren't very comfortable for long periods (great for short blasts though), B&O sound is great (better than the RS5), good tech and looks really cool. It's a heap of fun to drive but in the end it doesn't hold a candle to the RS5 IMO... even if the RS5 weighs about the same as a small moon :)

Also tried my hand at a few interior shots the next day. What a PITA that was! Need some more practice with these but managed a few decent ones.... and yes... the steering wheel is on the CORRECT side :)

It's been a long time between updates, admittedly I haven't made and significant changes to the car for a while. Over the Xmas break decided to change up the look of the wheels.

When I originally ordered the wheels from BC in the tinted clear finish, I didn't realise how bronze they would actually look on the car. I never hated it, it just wasn't what I was expecting, I though they would have more of a gunmetal flavor to them. I was due for some new tires so took the opportunity to have them refinished. I originally planned to have them sprayed in Audi silver (1H7), but unfortunately the paint shop I chose botched them up and the paint peeled off while I was trying to assemble them (long story).

Rather than spend another few months try to sort this out, I decided to have them powder coated silver. See results below!

Looks really good!! I’d ditch the bolt caps and expose the silver zinc lugs.
