the benefit of the SAI pump is that you are heating the cat up quicker, on a cold start condition, which will cause less emissions to be exhausting through to the muffler. also I'm sure because of this...the cat lasts a lot longer.

The benefits are emissions related. not performance related.

I hope John comes in here and explains his reasoning for keeping the SAI pump but I'm sure he's so annoyed with trying to explain the benefits.

my view. unless you have a test pipe, or a big turbo...keep the SAI pump.

As jpull mentioned, diagnosticator will just copy and paste a response I'm sure he has saved on his desktop, because this comes up weekly!

For a colourful thread on the topic, see here.

I'm an amateur, but I know this about SAI:
    - On startup an intake cam/exhaust overlap causes unburned fuel to be dumped into the exhaust stream. The SAI pump work in conjunction with the "combi valve" and injects air into the exhaust stream during this startup phase (90 seconds, I believe) to aid in burning the fuel dumped there, therefore, getting the cat up to temperature faster and making it more efficient and last longer and, of course, significantly reducing emissions.
    - Since the whole system runs only on startup, I fail to understand the argument of some people who remove it for "performance". It makes no sense to me, unless they rev their engines to redline within 90 seconds of starting them cold. After that, the system just sits there.

Benefit is freeing up space in the bay / weight reduction.

I am only removing mine because it failed, and would rather spend the money on a tune to write it out permanently than on a new pump that will probably just fail again. If yours is still functioning I see no reason to remove it unless you have a test pipe, in which case it is useless.

I have all my SAI stuff from when I removed it for my BT setup if you did want to replace the pump.

And removing a part prone to breaking. Both my Audi's and 1 VW have had the SAI pumps go. Only part on the engine to fail aside from wear items.

I think they got a little better as the generations went on, but its still a weak point reliability wise. And its fucking expensive to fix. The pumps are like 400 bucks and to get them installed is multiple hours because of the way z germans weaved the fucking pipes about the engine.

I appreciate it, but I've already ordered my Motoza Stage 1+ tune and sent him my stock ecu file. Might as well make some extra power out of the situation :)

Thanks guys for the great help even though it is like a weekly/monthly question LOL

I got my testpipe on and the reason why I am going to remove the pump is

Maybe I will get the CXRacing inlet kit

I am not sure it is really BOLT ON, or need to remove the SAI pump to free up some space

I don't believe there's much to be gained by switching from a factory airbox to a CAI. There are even some logs floating around the forum threads to show that the OEM airbox is quite good.
Besides that, I'd be concerned about sucking up air that close behind the bumper grills. A good water splash could soak that cone filter if you're missing bottom splash guard etc. Just my $0.02.

I drove with that intake for about a year. At first I liked the sound, but once I put an Exhaust on I couldn't hear it anymore. Put the stock airbox on, the car feels much better now. Never had any issues with the filter getting wet, but i was running a belly ban.

If your car get annual state emission inspection...it wont pass inspection with the SAI removed/broken. Unless your tuner tweeks the ECU...

In NC you can have one readiness monitor fail. I run an AEB head so I don't have SAI. Passed inspection with no problems. You do get a check engine light like every 200 miles, but if you clear that about 75 miles before inspection all of the other readiness monitors pass.
