    Coil over help please?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As I said in my previous post, I just bought my car and not surprisingly, the DRC had failed and the dealer I bought it from put cheap KYB struts and shocks in it. It sits and handles horribly!! As I have learned through research of my own, no one really makes just a replacement strut for the RS4. They are all sold as (A4, S4, RS4) struts. Well I believe the spring perch on the A4 sits higher, because the front end of my car looks like it has a lift kit. Since I hadn't planned on dumping 2 grand into coil overs yet but need to fix this, I was wondering if anyone has any opinion on the Solo-Werks S1 coil over kit from ECS Tuning. Figured that would work for now. Thanks for you help out there!

I agree with Denis silva, if i was you id try to get at least the Bilstein B14 for $500 more or the H&Rs. Thats if money is tight but if you have the funds go with the KW V3 or Bilstein PSS9.

I would get the PSS9s but with doing brakes front and rear, among regular services like fluids and filters, the wife is already complaining about cost. So I was just shooting for a quick fix and will do the Bilsteins or Ohlins later. She didn't quite understand that the $27,500 for the car itself was just the start.😜

I would urge you to not do Solowerks S1. if you think it sits and feels horribly now, it will be the same with the solo werks. I would go with Bilstein B14. you can get them for about $1000.

If you do go with solo werks, be prepared to spend another $1000 for a decent of coilovers the next month

Does 034 still offer the ohlin setup? I just noticed that they aren't listed on their website anymore? I know stupid high price but that was also an option?

H&R Street Coilovers are 25% off on ECS right now. Have been eyeing them myself. Any opinions regarding that setup?

Thank you guys for the input. You are right, I can just wait and get the H&Rs or Bilsteins. What's waiting a couple more weeks. I am just pissed I have to deal with stuff like that right off the bat but it's my own fault for not researching better before I bought the car.

If not you can still order them through PSI.

To the OP, just hold out for kwv3's or some Bilsteins.

Not sure if you'd care or not...
But with the Bilsteins you cant replace the front perches with B5 ones to lower the front end abit more...
I had totally forgotten about that when I put Bilsteins in (with the H&R springs I had) and I couldn't stand the height..
put in H&R coils in the next day...
the ride with the coils is way way better than it was with the bilstiens and springs....

True! And, PSS9's have nothing in common with Öhlins.

Are you speaking from personal experience with both ? If so can you expand on your thoughts as to why? I am thinking about pss9 or kw v3 myself and could use the input. Thanks

One data point here...I had PSS9s installed about 8k miles ago and I like them a lot. They are slightly harsher in normal driving than the DRC IMHO, but handle better. I have no experience with the KW v3s. I did get a good deal on the PSS9s when I purchased.

In case you need a quick fix to get your car back on the road until you can get a nicer setup, I do have a full DRC setup in a box in my basement that I'm trying to sell. Post-recall struts + OEM springs (not assembled); all four corners. It's yours for $300 -- in San Mateo, CA.

Customer service as in, warranty? I bought mine second hand and had them rebuilt at KW and my experience was easy and just fine. I knew i wasn't going to get the warranty buying second hand. BUT with that said ive read MANY times for almost ALL coilover companies that getting them fixed under warranty is a nightmare. They always try to find a justification for not fixing. Ohlins was you had to have them shipped in once a year. KW warranty isnt as bad from my brief knowledge of it.

I personally would prefer a full range adjustability of the KW over the PSS9 limited ability.

I can't speak for the PSS9, but I've had great luck with the V3's. They've held up well now through 3 Canadian winters. The stainless doesn't corrode, no leaks and they seems as great as the day I put them on.

The only downside to the KW warranty when I had a strut blow on my V3's with my B8 S4 was that you had to send it in for rebuild (which could also apply to other brands). Wasn't really an option at the time to be down my only DD for an extended period of time so I ended up having to buy a replacement strut. I did go with V3's again on the RS4 though, so hopefully these hold up better.

We do not recommend Solo Werks coil overs as they are not a quality item. For budget Friendly coil overs we recommend the BILSTEIN B14 kit. I would be glad to assist you with information on a bunch of options for your RS4. Shoot me a PM and we can get started!
