So after spending my night underneath my b6 installing my new diverter valve I'm lost to as what I did wrong. It's making a whining sound as boost builds it's squeling loudly and definitely doesn't sound right. What'd I do wrong ?

What kind did you get? If it was like mine (Forge Splitter) you need to install it pretty much reverse to your stock DV.

I'm not sure of the brand my friend gave it to me. I'm nearly positive I installed it correctly. On the first pull after installation it made a nice whoosh sound and then on the second a strange popping sound occurred like something had popped off. After that it is now making the loud whine as boost builds. I checked all the hoses going in to valve, what do I do now?

Sounds like something popped off some where causing a big boost leak which would explain your noise. Do you have a boost gauge to see if your building anything?

No I don't have a boost gauge. How else would I be able to tell?

I would make sure your hoses that you installed are actually tight, they can look like theyre on but still be lose enough to let air by when pressure is being built.

Gotcha I'm gonna check again. Just to make sure the bottom hose should be connected to the outlet that has the silver valve thing in it correct?

It's been awhile since I installed mine, but there should be a valve that you can press to move up and down, that should be the side getting the boost, can't recall if that's the bottom hose on it or not. Trace the bottom hose back and see where it's going.

If it was on incorrectly where would I have caused a leak?

First test your DV to make sure it functions properly. Clicky click® If it does the next step would be to perform a boost leak test to see if you have a major leak somewhere. Clicky click2®

    And just curious....Where is Longmeadow?

Here's another quick test to perform before you go for a full boost leak test. Simply remove the vacuum/boost line on the front of the intake manifold that connects to the N249 and then to the DV. Use an air nozzle to apply pressure to the hose. There should be no air at all going into the line. If there is you will need to find the leak and make a repair.

Ok will do later and let post results. Before I attempted to install the DV there was no leaks at a,ll could I have caused a pipe to tear or hose clamp to pop off by incorrectly installing it the first time?

The diverter valve can be installed in the "normal" or "reversed" position. It will work either way. So no, you didn't do anything to cause damage by installing it in either direction.

It's possible that during all the twisting and pulling on hoses to install the DV that you opened up a crack or split in an existing hose.

Gotcha I'm gonna check the valve and go from there i really hope it's just that. If not I'll begin to look for the leak.

Post #19. If that checks out do a boost pressure test as linked in post #15.

Probably from the block breather tube off the top of the oil filter housing. They tend to decay pretty rapidly.

Trace back from the top of the filter housing starting at the first hard pipe.
