    Acceleration - WOT

    Hey guys...

Maybe you seasoned pros can chime in here...

The car is set to Dynamic, Sport in Manual mode.

(From 15 km/h or so) as I mash on the pedal the car feels like there is all this boost being built up but not going anywhere (well it is but not quick enough) and the moment I let off the pedal ever so slightly I can now feel all the boost being used up by the engine and the car seems to hull ass much more quickly. Once I hit 5000-5500RPM mark, I hit the paddle shifter and there is from what it feels like motor movement as the DSG engages into 2nd gear. With the pedal still mashed, the turbo spools up it still feels like the boost is not going anywhere. Nearing the 5500RPM mark I hit the paddle shifter and the moment third gear is engaged there is motor movement (feels like motor torque movement if there is such a term); this continues for the next gear - at this point I've broken highway speed limits.

With all the boost being built up it almost feels like the motor is lugging or I'm lugging the motor from gear one - argh my head is hurting -

Don't get me wrong the car is quick and it does get moving. There are no errors or alerts or clutch slippage. I have not attempted launch control - yet!

My expectation is that the DSG should be buttery smooth under WOT ripping through each gear but it does not feel that way at all especially when the accelerator is mashed to the floor. Not sure how to explain this to the dealer without them thinking that I'm trying to break land speed records.

Mind you I have not tried Dynamic Sport full auto as I try to avoid redline -

Maybe its me not knowing how to drive this vehicle or understanding the DSG.

    Appreciate the comments/opinions/criticism

I can't really understand what you're describing by the engine using up boost when you lift throttle, so a video might help.

Regarding the DSG, the shifts are snappy at WOT in Sport. You feel them, and that's expected. This isn't a standard auto where the shifts are barely noticeable or have a rubber-band-like feeling.

Thanks for the response...I think i may have had one too many glasses of wine when I decided to post - lol.

So basically under WOT, with each gear change there's like a "bump" then off to the next gear and so. If I accelerate easily on the pedal then the shifts are much more smoother.

    Must be my OCD!

I have noticed almost every turbo car I have driven that when backing out of WOT there is a split second surge of power, almost as if the car is benefiting from a momentary lean condition...I have actually explained this to people before with some agreeing whole heartedly, while others say "wtf are you talking about?"

This is exactly what's happening, so I take it it's normal or at least expected?

    Appreciate the responses.

    Thanks

Redline isn't going to hurt anything, it's there to prevent you from hurting anything. Shifting that early is only robbing you of the additional 1,000 RPM that you have to use.

When into the throttle hard, the shifts will be quick and firm. Totally normal.

I'm pretty sure that feeling is normal. Now if the car does not feel smooth under full throttle, or if there are other obvious issues, it might be time to datalog.

I've driven both the A3 and S3 and the gear changes one does feel. I was under the impression that those gear changes are supposed to be smooth and not felt.

With mine in comfort mode I can't feel a single shift. When in sport or manual I feel the changes as I'm sure you're supposed to.
