NO SPEEDO- 2003 5 speed tranny in 2002 1.8t

Hey guys, replaced my engine and trans in my 2002 1.8t not long ago. Engine and trans came from a 2003 and it is a 5 speed as it was prior. I have had no speedo since the swap. I did switch over the vss in the side of the trans of the 02 trans into the "new" 03 trans. I even bought a new sensor, still nothing. Vagcom pulled this code, 16885. Or should I check wiring or anything else?

I don't know the answer but I do know that the '02 uses a VSS on the transmission and the the '03 utilizes the left front ABS sensor for the vehicle speed input. Your '02 is looking for a VSS input rather than the ABS signal. I recall reading somewhere where you can repin some inputs to utilize the ABS for on '02. I'll poke around a little to see if I can find it.

Did you use the '02 wiring and ECU or the stuff from the '03? The newer stuff pulls its speed signal from CANBUS through the ABS module. The older stuff had the VSS wired directly to the ECU.
