How often do you utilize all of your power? Your driving style

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just curious as this is coming up in another thread:

How often do you use all of the power of your car?

I drive 11.8 miles to and from work everyday. I would say that usually on my way home, I use full throttle potentially once or twice (California freeways hitting gaps because of idiot drivers, enough said).

I rarely ever wind out one gear, let alone 2 or 3 on a daily basis.

On the weekends, I might grab a few gears while hard into it. Especially if I'm going to one of my favorite golf courses out in the mountains.

My question is, how often do you use all of your power?

    A. Once or twice a day (maybe not all the way up to redline)
    B. Maybe once or twice a day (grabbing a few gears at redline)
    C. Once a week or month
    D. Dominic Toretto

I commute roughly 30 miles weekdays for work.

I always drive my car in "S" mode because like you; I deal with idiot drivers and shooting gaps frequently.

I normally do 30-80ish at WOT getting onto the highway.

Weekends are all over the place.

I normally do it once when I'm driving the S. Most likely not to Redline but depends on the day...

The more I drive the car and the longer I own it, the more I find myself driving in S or M. D feels too slow unless I am in stop and go traffic and I just want the car to be smoother, but even then sometimes I don't because if you don't ride the car in front of you here in New England you will get cut off.

I feel like it is already really easy to get into, "going to jail" speeds. Cars like this eat up those conditions no problem but it is generally frowned upon by society...damn speed limits...

Hit red line at WOT at least twice a day usually on on ramps. Hit the track on Fridays so you know what that is. On my bike I would top it out almost every ride (190+ on my favorite deserted stretch). I have a problem, rehab required!

Chris you need a tune so you can get that number a little lower.

    190 on a bike!?! You're nuts

Even doing that in the S4 is almost too much.

I agree, but now we just need to convince the rest of society. I have always felt there should be discretion for things like the type of car, because 80 in an s4 is relatively safe compared to 80 in an old beater or a pickup, or an 18 wheeler, etc. yet they are held to the same (in my opinion) antiquated restrictions.

I've got this one entry ramp to the interstate I get on everyday that is always wide open and so my s4 is always wide open. Everyday to answer your question although I fortunately I manage to restrain from driving the s4 everyday.

To be honest I feel more comfy at 190 on my bike than I would 160 in the S4. The bike gets there so quickly and it's is so stable, almost serene. You top out and return to reasonable speed sooner than the S4 reaches 150 (At least my S4).

Quick example: My bike is quicker since it is modified. (1st bike run ZX14R)

I agree. My bike sees 150+ on an open stretch of highway whenever I'm alone. Stable as can be.

I commute 50 miles each way every day. I live in the country and have to get on the interstate from a perpendicular road with no entrance ramp. Yes, I use all the power every day. :D The more, the better.

This is a sedan all hopped up for performance, there's a reason I bought it, so I could daily drive a car that I could have boatloads of fun with....daily.

    Soooo I'm a Dominic.

And I agree, speed on a bike strangely seems much more confidence inspiring and less dramatic somehow.

I definitely get on it given the opportunity, daily, but to be honest, I feel like I pushed my A4 harder. It was much easier to drive my stage 2+ A4 as hard as i could, as it's performance was completely within my comfort zone. While I definitely still want more power, this car has enough power that I get much less opportunities to wind it out all the way. Doesn't mean I don't want to. The ever changing clutch pedal in this car has also made it hard for me to gain confidence in my shifting ability, so I avoid WOT through hard turns and tight situations that I would normally hit harder due to shifting conditions. If I had DSG, I would definitely be Dominic Toretto.

This. I've been to 170 on a bike a couple of times, and 150ish fairly often. Although it's been 15 years since I've done either. Now I'm lucky if the wife lets me go 150 down the track in a full chassis car. Lol

Depends on traffic. I've got a 30+ mile commute (one way), and the highway is either dead clear, or its bumper to bumper truck traffic. I was getting into the habit of averaging 100+, but I am trying to slow down. I know my days are numbered until Mr. Flashy Lights sees me before I see him.. I think maybe once I start modding I'll speed back up. lol

It's nice to dream. I feel like 80 is just this car's starting point.

In my 4runner 80 feels like the maximum safe speed.
