In the middle of changing the CV boots and can I use these clamps below

Or is the one with the crimp necessary? Because I don't have that crimping pliers.

Screw clamps will be fine. Just don't over tighten them and damage the boot. Hell, I used zip ties on my rear boots years ago and they still work just fine.

You can get away with using diagonal cutters to pinch the ear. Of course it's better with the actual tool to get an even pinch, but I've had relative success with diagonal cutters.

For what it's worth, I fairly recently picked up this clamp pinching tool:

It's so cheap, that I think every DIY Audi owner should buy it!

I don't have the proper tool so I usually crimp them with shoemakers pliers / end nippers, otherwise sidecutters.

the actual tool is basically dull end nippers i think...

Finished the passenger side today. Feels really good to cross this one off the list.

That inner joint socket design seems to have a propensity for the boot to slip off, even after clamping, because it's not even force all around, evenly applied on a circular surface.
Rather, some parts of the boot are thicker rubber, so the clamp tightening is actually just squeezing the rubber, and not clamping it.
It may seem tight at first, but then will slip off after driving.
Hopefully that does not happen. It seems more likely on more extreme CV angles, such as when lowering a non-sport 3L automatic. Which uses the same inner CV design.

Manuals don't seem to have that problem. Maybe their inner design is different, and at less of an angle. More of a straight shot to the wheel.

    Just warning you.

Not sure if this means you just have to tighten the clamp a little more.
I have that same tool, and when trying to put force through it, it seemed to get loose and then eventually broke. The metal looked porous and not very strong.

Stuff always looks cool until you actually install it back on the car and drive it for a while to see if it works or not.

I've never tried a cutter tool, or screw clamps. A ziptie might work on the inner, because it's already sitting there with a tight sealed fit, holding in grease.
The large clamp is what's more important, because it has to keep the boot from falling off.

Looks like a better quality tool option, with no failure-points since the design is fairly simple.

Maybe I should've bought that one instead then, and ordered online.
The 'Lisle clamp pliers' were the only thing on the store shelf at the time.

And NAPA auto parts, but you have to buy the CV boot kit to get the clamps.
