Avant Branding

If the Audi Avant had a logo what would it look like? Here's a take on a branding concept that @johnnySV and I have been toying around with. It's by no means an official mark, but we thought it would be fun to adapt some of the Audi sport ques with the classic Audi typography. You could see it easily adapted to the MMI screen, caliper and window decals, maybe even a t-shirt.

Something we thought we'd share, just for fun, because Avants are awesome.

I have always wondered where the Avant name came from? Anyone know? There doesn't seem to be a German translation and to my knowledge the Avant name only applies to Audi compared with 'Estate' in the UK which generally refers to what North Americans would call a wagon or station wagon. Curious.

i want the T-shirt...maybe with an RS4/6 ass shot on the back...lets get that going avantagg!!! Also would be interested to see this in all caps...maybe a little more of an industrialized/german type font...(dont ask me which one). Great work though!

i think the term is just marketing...maybe playing on avant garde...

In my personal dictionary, Avant = better than a sedan, and sounds cooler than wagon...

Agreed. If keeping with the official Audi branding style, 'avant' should be all lowercase as with their 'allroad' and 'quattro' branding. I do really like the idea of making Avant more of a brand. Would be a good pitch to Audi!!

Fair point. I've always loved that quattro style lettering. Maybe it's just me, but I find it strange that Audi developed a logo for the Allroad platform but not the Avant. Also interesting to note that Audi uses a different style typeface for the model lines (A4, S4, A5, S5 etc.).



Regardless, I think it would be fun if the Avant had it's own identity, and I'm not an Allroad owner (yet) : )

Done! But seriously, if there's enough interest I could look into production costs for a small run of these if you guys are really diggin it. Would prob need a minimum of 24 tees. We'd have to agree on the outline vs. the fill too : )

AFAIK it's just a branding term Audi picked up to refer to their wagons at some point in the 80's? It means 'Forward' or 'advanced' or 'innovative' ..depending on vernacular or the language/ translation..

Put this together as suggested by a few others (still searching for a copy of the proper type so it's not prefect yet). I don't disagree that this style certainly feels more aligned with the "quattro" and "allroad" marks. That typeface is very identifiable and truly Audi. The lowercase v looks a little strange to me, but I don't hate it!

Eh, not a fan of repurposing the quattro/allroad font personally. But good on you to tinker with all of this on behalf of us 'avant' folk. Still love the original outline font t-shirt.

I agree with you and also think it's kind of fun to create something different and perhaps more distinguished for the Avant. I'll let others chime in and we can keep the conversation going.

What about keeping the original font as in the first post, losing the two white stripes and putting the capitol A in the red like the allroad design.

Seems like there is some general interest for these tees. I'm happy to get a list started and figure out costs with a local screen printer I work with.

What's the best format here? Keep updating the thread or put together a google doc? I'm feeling the original style design with the outlined text—and that also seems to be the general consensus.

It would look pretty nice with a hit of silver metallic ink on a heather or solid black tee.

Awesome! I have resources for both. Start a new one up in the Avants only section? Maybe you and I can put that together. Seems like the RS4 spoiler group buy thread worked pretty well.

I've only seen the C6 & C7 Avant & Sedan and but that's probably because the german forum that I belong to is only populated A6 4F (C6) folks. I'll check with the source that I ordered from and see what they have.
