    Audi Extended Warranty Worth it?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

I have a 2013 A5 with 19,000 miles on it. Factory warranty is expiring next week so i went to my dealership to inquire about an extended warranty. I usually wouldnt do this but since my car has low miles i was thinking i may keep it for awhile. Audi offers a extended warranty through ZURICH WARRANTY CO. Im not keene on buying through a third party but i guess they work directly through Audi. Here is the costs:
Platinum Plan ( Does not cover MMI, and wear and tear items)

    3yr-36,000$1,930
    4yr-48,000$2,271
    5yr-60,000$2,543
    6yr-72,000$2,778
    $100 deductible on any claim.

Anyone shead any light on these warranties? Worth it? Any recomendations?

I'd find out exactly what it does and doesn't cover. If it's anything like the factory CPO warranty, it could be very well worth it.

^It likely isn't though. Plus you may be better off to just skip the middle man (Audi).

My thinking is that if you've had the car for this long...you should have run across any possible major issues by now. I'd skip it. But I'm more mechanically inclined than most.

Definite no from me here. Typically these 3rd party warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on as they aren't comprehensive. Definitely not the same as Audi's CPO warranty. Chances are good that your factory warranty may extend beyond the 5 years anyway. See the oil consumption thread for example.

i'm in the same boat only worry is that if the car is modded then some of the things they cover will be void
my main concern is the DSG anything else i can fix or get fixed, but who would you trust with this trans if it had issues

I, on the other hand, paid $2700 for a 5-year/50K miles extension with $0 deductible, and I believe it's worth it (insurance policy offered through the bank that finances my vehicle). I read the terms of the warranty, and as long as the car has an oil and oil filter change every 6 months or 5K miles they cover bumper to bumper except anything that is considered wear & tear (fluids, break pads, suspension shocks, tires etc.).

I'd really like to hear why you guys think these extended warranties are not worth the paper they're written on.

i have the 100K mile extended warranty through Audi. It really is for peace of mind for me. But I have kept all my cars to at least 100K and in every instance I have used the warranty enough to justify me getting it the next time. But getting that warranty when the car has 0 miles on it is lot cheaper and and an easier decision. Check with FD-warranty.com/audi. They will sell you the same factory warranty at a discount

You A5 guys are LUCKY. I just hit the 4 year mark on my '13 S5 (with only 42K miles), so I have been looking around for warranty options. You are lucky in that the A5s have MUCH cheaper warranties than the S5. I've checked with an aftermarket company and Audi, and they are all in the $5K range for 3yr/36K miles. That is way too much for me to bite, especially given how reliable the S5 has been for me (no DSG, so no worries there).

It all depends on who the warranty is with and how good they are. Just have to research the warranty, and company, to see if its worth it.

Its always good to check exactly what is/is not covered. Often a lot parts that end up needing replacement are non-covered wear and tear items like brakes, shocks, cv boots, bushings, motor mounts, etc. See a lot of people assume, or sometimes are mislead to believe, that warranty means no repair bills. When in reality most warranties are mainly there to cover random powertrain failures (that rarely occur). Besides this expectation mismatch, 3rd party warranty companies can be difficult to deal with. They try to minimize their losses like an insurance company. So while you just want them to honor your warranty and fix your car so you can get to work, they may take a day or two to get back to your chosen shop with an approval for warranty repair, or may try to negotiate with the shop to lower the cost of the repair. The shop may not want to, forcing you to either come out of pocket for the difference or take it to another shop (hassle). And just because a dealer 'sells' 3rd party warranties, does not mean Audi is in any way affiliated with the warranty coverage or that the Audi dealer will be able to repair the car hassle free similar to the Manufacturer or CPO warranty. It also means its marked up too.

Remember warranties are profitable business. They take in more money than they payout, so on avg. consumers do not actually 'get their moneys worth' from them. Its more for piece of mind and protection against the remote chance of catastrophic problems.

That's how insurance works in general, so nothing new there... :)

It's that time. My car is almost up to 45,000 miles and I'm getting the last Audi Care service in a couple of weeks.

I've never had any major problems with the car, in fact there's no problems with it so far. But I do like the ability to take it into the dealership and not have to shell out thousands at a time ($100 deductible sounds good). I've seen in other cases where extended warranties didn't cover things, and it's been a battle. I guess that's worth it if they come through and pay at the end. If nothing happens to my car in the warranty range, I'm OK with that, but if anything does go wrong, I would NOT be OK with it if the warranty did not cover it.

Has anyone actually cashed in on their extended warranties lately?

Also, has anyone bought Audi Care Plus (can you even?) at the end of their regular Audi Care to keep getting cheaper services?

Audi Care Plus takes over where Audi Care leaves off, and is
available for Audi CPO vehicles at any mileage, or Audi
vehicles that were sold as new or used and have reached
40,000 miles or above. This makes Audi Care Plus perfect for
Certified Pre-owned and Used Audi vehicles. It offers many of
the same benefits as Audi Care, only at the 55-, 65- and
75,000-mile service intervals – and with savings of up to 17%
    over purchasing these services separately.
    3 And like Audi Care,
prepayment locks in the cost of all services covered by Audi
    Care Plus.

Set aside some vehicle maintenance savings account. Better than buying a warranty and not needing it.

depends on the dealer selling it to you but expect to pay $3-5K above purchase price. IMO, however, money well spent. If you set up a stationary back up fund, it will be depleted as soon as you have to do any transmission/engine work. With the warranty, you are getting thorough coverage. I'd rather spend the money up front and have peace of mind than not. I know they're making money off of me but I value peace of mind over dollars.

Thanks and I totally agree. My warranty is ending in a few months, so I wanted to start looking around at some options. However, I'm buying mine at the end of the audi warranty rather than upfront, so was wondering what the cost might be on that. I'll reach out to Fidelity to find out, but this is at least a ballpark.

FYI.. Audi no longer uses Fidelity as their warranty company. As of Jan 2017 They have moved it in house so to speak. The Audi Pure Protection plans are now offered by VWFS Protection Services..2200 ferdinand Porche Dr Herndon VA..20171 1-844-368-6416.
Just bought a 4 year Platinum plus plan.. Price has to do with zip code and mileage on car plus service history.. Paid $3200..HTH..
