4.2 AWN into my 2.7t AllRoad?

Just picked up a 2003 AR Cobalt blue with the 2.7t and TIP. Motor is pouring oil some where out the back of the motor. When I pour oil into the filler port, it literally pours out the back without the engine running.

It has good compression on 1, 2, 4 and 5 cylinder so figure it is toast.

I can either replace the BEL 2.7t with another 2.7t or I have the option to buy a 2004 A6 with a AWN 4.2 V8 ((timing belt) and a bad TIP.

I know the A6's with the 4.2 were "wide body" cars. I also know that some AR's came with the timing belt V8 but more came with the timing chain V8.

My question is, does the V8 require a slightly larger engine bay in the AR which came with a 2.7t? In other words, will the V8 fit in a AR that didn't come with a V8 originally?. You can see the difference in the A6 bodies on the outside, but I cannot see a difference in the AR's.

I think the engine bay is longer and wider. I don't think it is possible to do 2.7T -> 4.2. I have see the opposite and it was a lot of work. I would just put in a 2.7T with bigger turbos.

There were no Allroads with the timing belt V8 engine, only the S4 V8. And yes, the timing belt V8 cars were 'widebody' AND they are something just under 2" longer up front. I have a feeling you could get the AWN installed but it wouldn't be really straight forward. You'd probably have to find some room somewhere, behind the radiator likely, to make it fit okay. I don't know how that 5hp19 trans would handle the AWN engine either.
It's a cool idea, but you'd probably want to follow a couple of the B5 A4 --> V8 swap threads, those guys have it down pretty good. Adapting that AWN to the Allroad would probably be similar in wiring and such..

That's what I thought. I will either go back to a 2.7t or do another 2.0 TDI from a Passat with a 6MQ. Then I have lots of room in the engine bay!
