    Tuning a High-Mileage A4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi. I have a 2005.5 Audi A4 2.0T (auto) and I want to get an APR tune for it. It's quick, but I would like it to make more power. My only hesitation is that it has 176k miles. The previous owner never drove it hard and the timing belt was replaced two months ago. I can drive it pretty hard and the car responds exactly as it is supposed to with no concerning behavior or noises.
Does anyone have any experience tuning an A4 with such high miles? What kinds of things should I look for before I do this?
    Thanks.

I see no downside in tuning a higher mileage car. My car currently has roughly 200,000 miles on it and I am running a JH M Stege 2, 93 octane tune. It is considered to be one of the most aggressive is not the most aggressive off-the-shelf tune, and my car runs fine. Where you need to do is make sure all of the maintenance items are done. If all of the maintenance items are done and your car is not throwing any codes thus runs great, tune away.

Make sure you're up on your maintenance and I see relatively low risk. Of course, there is always some risk with tuning

I went Uni Stage 1+ at 175k when I bought the car, make sure to change the cam follower and oil level is good before driving it hard on the tune.

Never. Still running factory K03. 93 octane, stage 2 operates with the K03.

I assumed you'd replaced it at some point with another OEM. Damn, 200k on a factory turbo with a stage 2 tune? That gives me lots of hope. I was planning on buying a backup unit for my 140k car for fear a tune would be too much for the factory snail.

My car has had a tune since about 175 miles. Factory turbo doesn't burn oil. It may have been replaced by the previous owner, but I have every receipt for all work done (including oil changes) and there isn't nothing for the turbo. Having said that, he was meticulous, and I wrench as a form of stress relief.
