Motor rebuild. What are my options!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I just bought a 2.7 with 40k miles, motor looks to be in great condition. I want to fully build it so I can just replace the motor in my S4 all at once. What have you guys done, any suggestions?

I'm really looking for a lot of help with this one.

    3.0 liter conversion?

    Just doing 2.8 heads?

What would be the best way to get the most horsepower out of this block?

    Thank you in advance

Most efficient way to build a 2.7t imo:
    H-Beam rods
    Stock pistons (fine to 650+wtq)
Supertech valve train in 2.7 or 2.8 heads
    2.8 intake cams
    E85 fuel

Keep it simple and you will get to enjoy your car
Go all out and you will probably regret it

Do you regret it Monty? I always liked following your thread but you have more patience than me.

    Truth right here.

Rods are the weakest link in the short block. The rest is all about breathing.

So if I do rods, 2.8 heads, 2.7 intake cams. What should I be running as far as fueling. Don't want to do e85, there's nothing in my aeea

You'd want to run meth then if you don't have E85 accessible to you.

Would it be worth it to port my 2.7 heads or just by 2.8 heads

No, 2.8 heads/cams. I remember there was a guy that did just the 2.8 cams on the same tune and made 30whp-ish.

    Don't remember the thread though

Depends on your skill level, time, etc when it comes to porting heads (if doing it yourself) as you can make things worse if you have no idea what you're doing. But 2.7 heads can be ported to 2.8 specs.

swapping in a set of 2.8 heads will obviously be easier and cheaper. If keeping the stock valve train, swap over your 2.7T exhaust valves to the 2.8 head. Also consider port matching the manifolds and heads.

Pick a budget, stick to that budget. Whatever setup falls well within that budget. Shit happens, stuff breaks, and there's a myriad of 'while you're in there' items that will probably need to be addressed depending on the condition of your motor.

That said, I went a little over budget, and daily drive a 770 car. I regret nothing.

No regrets, it's a learning experience for sure. But I certainly would have made different choices if I was starting from scratch today.... 07k swap... cough. Hindsight is 20/20 though.
