    Audi Connect SIM Options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,
My T-Mobile "contract" for Audi Connect finally came due. I'm looking for replacements. I have a Google Project Fi Sim in my phone and they do offer a pay as you use data only SIM for their devices but I dont know if it will work in the car. I am also looking for other options so...

    1) Is anyone using Project Fi in their car? Can you outline how you got it to work

    2) Is anyone using anything other than the approved vendors for Audi Connect? Which one? How do you get it to work?

    Thanks!!

Found this link the other day..... it is possible to configure the MMI 3G+ to use a USB wireless adapter and your phone's hotspot.

OK, AZ seems to block other sites, so on that note just replace the * above with:

I believe Project Fi is your best bet.

I would be running this in my car if I could. Sadly you have to have another device in order to get a data-only SIM.

There is a thread outlining a few other options somewhere on here.

I'm using US Mobile, which has a fairly affordable monthly data only option. It uses the T-Mo network. Occasionally (maybe once a week or less) I get a weird error message, but it goes away right away. It works well and I'm paying a lot less than with the official Audi contract.

I use US Mobile as well and it works perfect. Have yet to have an error message going on 4 months now.

I have the 250mb plan, but I hardly ever use more than 50 or so mb's a month. Might kick it down until I go on a road trip or what not.

Did you guys have to do anything to make it work or just get the sim and drop it into your phone?

You mean drop it into my car? Nope, there was a setting I changed; I can't remember off the top of my head, but I found it on a thread here on Audizine. It was a simple change though.

I'm using a Truphone pre-paid sim card in mine, but really only use it for 'send routes to car' and for google searches. Works fine! Here's one of several threads about it:

I use Project Fi, and couldn't be happier. I've literally spent $0.07, I believe, in the 7 months I've been using it. I don't use Google Earth maps, but I use the internet features (getting directions, pulling my online destinations, etc...) and it works perfectly. With 2013+ models you just have to drop the SIM in and put in a specific code, and it's good to go.

I'm super happy with the Truphone solution as well. VERY tiny data usage for downloading directions and doing searches, and it just works.

Any suggestions?

I was initially in the same boat. I plugged in the USMobile card first but no data. I then changed the apn to pwg. At first nothing. I was ready to give up and then the next day, everything was working as intended.

Did you have to do anything to the MMI to accept the ATT Sim rather than the TMobile one?

Was your car originally equipped with TMobile? You just plugged in the ATT Sim and it worked with no changes?

I may be wrong but I don't think it matters whats in your car. The sim just provides the service for your car to get signal.

How much was that SIM? How much data comes with it and how long does it last? I dont use my car enough... So I wonder if one of those prepaid cards is the way to go for me rather than pat $120 a year with ATT.

    Audi Connect SIM Options?

It's not that you can't switch carriers. On my 2013, T-Mobile supported 3G but carriers like AT&T would show up as 2G. It was based on the factory installed modem in the car. Now, T-Mobile started upgrading their network, which kicked some people down to 2G or no service. Audi is replacing modems, free of charge, for those affected. The plus to this is now I can get HSPA+ with AT&T compared to before. I originally read about this on Audiworld, so go through the thread and verify what I said.

    http://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-c...-data-2883842/

Just an observation, but I think you might need to have active service with T-Mobile for Audi to do the hardware upgrade. I'm not 100% sure.

Heres the thread on it. I'm going to do the downgrade and hope to get free data like others have done.

Bought it used and not sure what it had before but I went to an AT&T store and told them I had an iPad I needed a SIM card for. They added a line to my existing plan for $10/month, gave me a SIM card, popped it in my car and it worked in 3G. They may ask you for a iPad IMEI number or something but just use one from their iPad display section....that's what I did...👍🏽
