Frickin amazing!!! It's about time!!! So sick of all this technology yet I'll sit at a red light with NO traffic anywhere! How cool would it be to have my car tell the traffic light to turn green!!

I don't believe the car can actually 'talk' to the light and tell it you're the only one there so turn green. It's most likely receiving signals only, like receiving weather info or getting FM radio signals.

Also, this sucks for people who already bought the car like me. It seems it will only be for cars made after June 1, 2016 and only in certain cities. They need to release an update for older cars.

Correct - "talk," meaning "communicating," with the database servers that control the traffic lights. I've read up on this and my point is correct - if there's a bunch of cars sitting at a red light and only a few cars with the green light the server will know to switch the signal to alleviate the heavy traffic sitting at the red (of course the majority of these cars have to have this technology) So my scenario should work too - if it's late at night or I happen to be the only one at a red light, the Audi would be communicating the the traffic light's central computer and if there's no other similar equipped vehicles, the light should turn green for me.

oh brother....BIG BROTHER....what else is it going to monitor? Cell phones already communicate with traffic sensors for your morning commute in metro areas and give your speeds on stretches of interstates...!
