It's based off of the hub speed and rotation I believe. I don't think there's a physical module in the wheel. Unless the Q is totally different than the other B8 chassis cars.

    Tire pressure monitoring system
TPMS measures the tyre pressures indirectly. It uses the signals from the ABS/ESP wheel speed sensors to detect differences in rotational speed between the individual wheels, which provide an indication of pressure loss. The same signals are used to analyse characteristic vibrations of the separate wheels, which may also point to a potential loss of pressure. A warning display alerts the driver so that the tyre pressures can be checked as soon as a pressure loss occurs.

There is no TPMS module, the Audi Q5 uses an indirect system via the ABS module to measure the tire rotation to be able to tell when a tire is going low. The system will not tell you which tire either, it will just tell you that you have a low tire and you will have to check them all yourself.

The system will tell exactly which tire has low pressure

To expand on this, what if my winter set have a slightly different rolling diameter than OE (slightly taller sidewall on winter tires), resulting in my speedo being slow by approx. 2mph? Will the TPMS still work?

As long as all four have the same rolling diameter, which with Quattro, they really should be exact.

That may be the case on a Euro spec car, but on our USA model the light went off and the system did not say which tire was affected. I had to check all 4 tires and only found 1 tire that was 2psi off from the factory 40psi requirement.

Your dealer is an idiot, prestige or not the Q5/SQ5 does not use sensors for the TPMS. It is a indirect system. Air the tires up to the correct pressure, then go thru the MMI and have it set the new tire pressure readings. Then go drive it for a bit.

    WOW
Congratulations, you Q5 is the only in the world that has installed Tire Pressure Sensor
But Tire Pressure Sensor (1K0907253D) require central unit 1K0907273A + cable to connect to the central electronics and programming
    Good luck

thats weird then we got only one dealer in saskatoon sk might have to call somewhere else to find out. and i check all tire pressure its all correct and and store new pressure setting in MMI and drove almost coming 500km and the light wont go off.

Dude you need to find another dealer, one that knows there stuff. Maybe someone put TPMS sensors on the wheels, but the Q5 does not use sensors for the TPMS system.
