Need opinions trade my B6 or not!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys I'm looking for some opinions on this. I just picked up a 05 102k miles great condition just had timing belts and water pump done. Buuuut I'm kinda really disappointed in the power this thing has. :/
So I'm looking to trade it for a b5 s4. The only guy who I've found that is down has a 2000 with 180k on alright condition could use some work. Should I hold on to mine and build it up for more power or go the easy easy trade for the s4 and pray it doesn't cost me a fortune
    Any opinions greatly appreciated thanks!

Power in a stock b6 sucks!! I had one and it was super slow. I still loved it though. But an s4 is expensive. If you dont mind wrenching on your own cars then go for it. If anything save up for a very clean s4 with service records. An s4 in 'alright' condition and needs some work usually needs a lot more work than you think.

Of the two, the B6 is the smaller money pit.

If you are comfortable doing your own work and pulling an engine, go with the S4. If you want a car that is easier to work on (but still requires constant attention until its in top notch shape) go with the B6.

If your looking for outright power, B8 S4. Pulley and a tune on E85 is faster and worlds nicer than a stg3 B5 S4.

A B5 S4 that is in good shape is VERY hard to find these days. Most are abused. Most of them will sit in your garage longer than its on the road and youll be dumping thousands of dollars into it all the time. 180k ? Unless its got new turbos, set aside a few grand for turbos and a few grand for labor unless you can pull the motor yourself.

If you test drove a 1.8T and saw how slow it is stock, why'd ya buy it?

Thanks for the input bros. I'm really contemplating saying fuck it and going balls deep with s4. But I bought the A4 because it's clean and I was thinking oh I'll build it up but now I'm realizing how much money it really takes to get a fast A4

I guess it all depends upon your end goal. For a little over $2K you can get a very reliable 270→280 HP out of the 1.8T with relatively easy bolt on stuff. That's more than a stock B5 S4.
'03 A4 5-MT Motoza tuned Frankenturbo F21L With full supporting mods. Sold (and missed dearly).
'13 A5 6-MT Needs more Fun Stuff: Neuspeed PM / 3.0 TDI Intercooler / H&R OE Sport Springs / Bilstein B8 Shocks / TyrolSport Brake Stiffeners / ECS Short Shifter / S5 Side Skirts / RS Grille

For only 2k what are you thinking?

My plan for the b6 as of nowis
Upgraded smic or fmic whichever is cheaper
    Revo stage 3 tune
    Gtrs elim kit
    TP
    TIP
Which would be allot more than 2k

A complete Frankenturbo F21 kit with turbo, injectors and high flow exhaust manifold and a Motoza tune is around $1,800. Add a 034 HFC for emissions (or a test pipe if you aren't a tree hugger) and a cheap ebay FMIC and you will have a very entertaining ride.

It's certainly not big turbo performance but it can be very entertaining. Down the road you can get a bit more serious and go for an E85 tune and you can get well over 300 hp.

Ooooo gotcha I was reading up on the Franken turbo thought it made more sense to go right to BT. Is it necessary to run upgraded intercooler with that setup or would I be good with stock ?

As I previously stated this isn't going to get you BT performance. But it will be a bit more drivable, especially in the low RPM range. No need to upgrade anything that I haven't already mentioned.

ya...the reason i haven't gotten into a B6 S4 was due to gas mileage. the reason why i haven't gotten into an B5 S4 is because the interior isn't as pretty, and the B5 chassis needs about 2x more upkeep than the B6 chassis.

if you really wanted power from a twin turbo, a few folks here have done a 2.7TT swap. I think there were 1-2 completed well put together cars for sale here not to long ago.
