    Stubby 17mm ?

Hey guys. I've had my B7 Avant for little over a month now and I'm finally gonna change my Cam Follower and it looks like I need a stubby 17mm wrench, but I can not find one at all locally (Vancouver area). Canadian Audiziners, where did you find your Stubby 17mm ? ? ?

I have tried Canadian Tire, Princess Auto, KMS Tools, Home Depot, Aucklands Grainger, and Sears. .. nobody carries it. I've seen Stubby sets with 14, 15, 16, 19mm... etc. with the 17mm missing, over and over again . It looks like my only option at this point is to order one off Amazon or something.

    Any suggestions would be great.

I have a craftsman of Husky or something box wrench that is just barely slim enough to get the proper tightness on the nut thing. Its a pain in the ass but it works to loosen it then you can spin it off by hand. Lots of people jsut modify a normal box wrench by grinding off material on the top and bottom of the open ended side. I'm not sure a stubby wrench would make things any easier...

17mm stubby is definitely easier to remove hf fuel line, but not required. Did it with a regular, but had to maneuver the wrench quite a bit. No doubt, stubby is easier.

You can just get any 17mm wrench and cut it off from one of the sides to make it shorter.

I recall just using a 17mm wrench, and hating myself immensely. I take it you have banjo and not the flexible hose? I would suggest swapping that out if you can while you are in there.

Yeah me too. Regular old craftsman 17mm wrench. Didn't even think it was that hard to remove/difficult to maneuver.

I picked us this set, one of my favorites for working on this car in tight spots, especially the rachet side!

Looking at the picture on the harbour freight website, the set does not have a 17mm.....

17mm stubby wrench for about $6 CAD

I actually bought a cheapo set off amazon.com for about $12 that included a 17mm. Can't say i've actually seen one in person at a store when I looked even in the US.

Huh, well look at that. May have to visit the store. My set is "pittsburgh pro" which is their top tier level tools featuring 5 degree ratchet increments and goes from 8,10,12,13,14,15,17. I just assumed it was the same as I linked but appearently not. Sorry

I bought a cheap set on Amazon. I end up using a regular length wrench anyway and one I had to modify to get in between the fuel line nut and the rubber hose fitting on the pump so I wouldn't have to remove the hose. I filed down the claws on the wrench so that they were a slimmer profile to get in there.
