Suspension mods for 2016 AR recommendation

    Hi guys,
I recently bought a 16 AR. Two days later, I had a stage 1 APR tune :). The ECU upgrade was a good investment. Even though I do not have before and after dynos, the car seems to have lots more torque and less laggy. Many thanks to Aadel from Elite Performance in H-town. He was great and easy to work with. The tune was very quick and painless. I also secured a set of 20" wheels; the next step on my list is to improve the handling of my AR. I used to have an 08 RS4 and upgraded it with a Stasis Motorsport coilover, and I loved it. Unfortunately, Stasis is not available anymore; therefore I have to look into other options. From my search on AZ, I narrow my coilover selections down to either KW v3 and Bilstein Ride control. I am using my AR as my DD, and Houston streets can be very unforgiving. I do not want the suspension to be too rough. I also consider Alu Kruez under body brace along with Hotchkis sway bars which I'm not 100% certain to be available for my AR. Any of you guys have any experience with these set ups? Also are there anything else I need to consider to improve my AR handing?
    Thanks all

I'm running Hotchkis H-Sport sways on my allroad, and have put them on my last 4 Audis as well. I don't have an Alu Kreuz on my current car yet, but I had one on my last allroad. I think sways make a bigger difference than the AK to tighten up Audi understeer.

I'm running the Hotchkis sway bars too, they were hands down the best mod in regards to handling - you can read more about it in my build thread in my signature. The model number you want is #22836.

Checked out ur build. Your car looks great. Mine has the same color, and I am also planning to get apr stage 2. Did you do the install of the downpipe yourself? Are the coil packs and spark plugs needed to upgrade to stage 2? How long did these parts take to install
    Thanks

Thanks. Yes I did the HFC install myself, luckily since the car has never seen a salty snowy winter I had no issues removing the mid pipe/down pipe. On my first attempt it took about 3 hours, now I bet I could get it all swapped in a hour, but keep in mind the stock cat is gigantic and requires a lot of experimenting with different angles to find the sweet spot and not strip a bolt. Also PB blaster is your friend.

Only the HFC is needed for stage 2, coils and plugs aren't nesseccary, they're just a supporting mod. Some guys are running the stockers without issue.

Thanks buddy. I suppose I can have the muffler shop to help for the downpipe install and drive it to the tuner shop because I think the tuner shop quoted me $500 for the dp install.
I will definitely look into the hotchkis swaybars after decide on which coilover to purchase.

I would caution you on the KW coilovers. I have KW V1s installed on my allroad and I am not able to get enough rear height to make the car ride acceptably. I am currently in a bit of a battle with KW to get it resolved, and it is not going overly well. They maintain that KW does not make a coilover for the Allroad, and that installing an a4 Avant coilover on an Allroad will cause problems. My research tells me that a lot of KW coilovers have rear height problems on the B8 platform. I would avoid this situation, and if I could go back in time, I would be running the Bilsteins.

Like KFizz stated, be cautious of the KW line. I have nothing against their product, just the rear spring setup is no where near being correct for the AR. I personally run H&Rs and can barely get enough ride height out of the rears as well. You might want to consider the PSS10s: Bilstein makes a fantastic coilover!

For sways, take a look at the Eurocodes. I installed a set 3 weeks ago and what a difference they make with under-steer. At low speeds, you can't tell, but when pushed hard, I was amazed at how quickly the rear end came around.

if u find the KW rears to be too low. u'll need the spring spacer.

Thanks for all the response guys. I spoke to some people who were able to contact both bilstein and KW. Both companies said that they do not have any current coilover set up for Allroad. They said the set up for the b8.5 a4 is different than that of the Allroad due to the fact that the rear of the AR is much heavier. The spring rate set up for the AR rear is higher that of B8.5 a4. I also had my tuner called hotchkis about their sway bars. Hotchkis too said that they do not have the sway bars for AR as the moment also because the different rear spring rate set up.
I know you guys have done your search and try on your AR, should I be cautious to move forward?
I will check out eurocode sway bars though.

They're saying all that for liability. When I can't find something allroad-specific, I look for B8 (2009-2012) A4 Avant specs.

I've had Hotchkis sways, H&R coilovers, and probably lots of other stuff that isn't "officially" made for the allroad. Just do your research and ask questions and you'll be fine.
