    B7 2.0T Rattle Noise

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

Experiencing some rattle issues with my '06 B7 A4 2.0T. The noise sounds like high pitched rattle and seems to only happen when I'm in 3rd or 4th gear and give it just enough not to have the car downshift. So when there is that really low roar with vibration. I checked most of the heat shields and everything seems secure. I have posted a few videos below and sorry in advance for the poor filming. Any ideas? Thanks!

Niether, describe where it is coming from. If in engine, check cam chain tensioner, cam follower, fuel lines are not rattling, if inside, tighten everything up.

Have you tried replacing the turbo yet?

I'll try and get another video from the outside because the sound is definitely loud. Sounds like it is coming from the engine. Just had timing belt/water pump replaced no more than 5k miles ago at the audi dealership. I have been experiencing misfires, but it's not throwing any codes. Was going to get a carbon and injector cleaning done to see if that helped.

At first I thought this might be a possibility, but I haven't found any videos online with similar sounds yet.

i had a rattle when coasting/downshifting as well. Turns out it was my AudiUp intake heat shield rubbing on my turbo. I bent it out a little bit and now its gone.

I'd say 80% of the cell phone videos posted here are not helpful at all. This would be more helpful:

    1. If the sound is from the motor, do you hear it when you are parked and just revving the motor?
    2. Is it just at certain RPM's or in a certain gear?
    3. When you are accelerating or slowing down?
    4. Does it go away if you put it in neutral?
    5. Does it go away if you hit the brakes?

That kind of data will help you narrow it down.

1.) Does not make the sound when parked and rev'd
2.) Seems to only happen in 3rd and 4th around 2500 to 3500 when you give it gas but stays in the same gear. Low roar and vibration.
3.) Both accelerating and high rpm when I slow down if I throw it in sport or slap stick.
    4.) Yes
    5.) Yes

    Thanks!

Is it coming from the engine bay? Or is it underneath you in the drive shaft area? Sounds like it's only when the motor is under some sort of load, either on throttle or off throttle.

Check this thread too. Wastegate rattle. Read posts 19 and 23 in particular. I could imagine the exhaust pressure of being off-throttle making the wastegate and linkage rattle around.
