sometimes Hot or cold start I have what seems to me to be a long attempt and then if I press the gas peddle it will start, seems to have this issue starting on my S4 also. Fuel filter? maybe pump? how would I test this or any thoughts on it? Both vehicles are tiptronic.

When I've seen this on other vehicles it's usually spark plugs, but as I'm still becoming familiar with the 4-rings I'll let someone else provide more precise input.

My B7 used to get this way when I needed to replace the fuel filter. Start with that, as it's by far the cheapest (~$30)

That was the initial symptom of my crank reference sensor on its way out the door. It doesn't throw any codes, it just dies (mine did while driving) so keep an eye on that if it persists after you do the fuel filter/pump.

It could also be the ignition cylinder itself, but I'd let someone with more knowledge on the subject address what's involved with that.
