    2.8 Muffler Delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm looking to make the car just a little more noisy. Nothing crazy but enough so that I can at least hear it. I'm thinking about a muffler delete but haven't had any success finding videos or sources with 2.8 muffler deletes. Would it sound too ricey? Straight pipe?

straight pipe sounds good, any exhaust on them sounds good; but straight pipe is obnoxiously loud. Ridiculous drone too, theres no turbo to muffle it a little like on the 1.8 so it screams lol. I was going to buy one that was straight piped and its deafening

So I'm guessing muffler delete is the way to go?

Replace the muffler. Most 2.8 people run a magnaflow 14816 or 14815 I believe. My first b5 over 10 years ago was a 2.8 and i did a 14816 with res delete, was unbearable on hwy, and friends hated it. I added a magnaflow straight flow 22inch resonator and it became ok. I think stock res with muffler would be best.

Or just buy a system for the car

My video literally pops up 5th on that search list.

If I change it to 12v, my video is literally the first to pop up with another one just 7th on there. Both have great audio, so you're probably either listening on a potato, or don't have your volume on.

I got mine for $80. You just need the factory S4 exhaust and that's it. No other ******y required. They can be found cheap from S4 guys that have upgraded.

Hell, I sold the one I got for $50 to a buddy of mine. Start searching.

    Like, last week.

Searching for the past and present, posting for the present to the future.

I run a muffler delete on my 1.8t, I think a muffler delete would be good on a 2.8, although I'm sure a magnaflow 14815/16 would probably be a good idea if you're not trying to be quite as "clear" sounding.

muffler delete on any car always causes drone from my experience. I would say resonator delete and a new muffler would be best

Don't do this. Its like 1000x worse than u think. Headaches, car alarms, ect. It was like the worst.

I've ran more than a few systems and had several straight piped vr6s its nothing close to that in terms of liveable
Do a "performance muffler" and call it a day. S4 would be other option. Leave stock res or use a straight flow its unbearable without.

Drone is not disapated with a muffler, but with a resonator. The res is meant to take care of the drone and raspiness, whereas a muffler is meant for volume control.

    ^ Agreed.

    If you think:

    Straight pipe is loud
    Muffler / resonator contains noise.

Wherever the straight pipe is, will be where the noise is.

So if you keep your muffler and delete the res, the straight pipe where the resonator was will be loud (underneath the cabin of the car, loud in the car) the muffler will contain the noise out back.

Where as if vice versa, you keep your resonator, it will be quiet in the cabin, and loud out the back where the muffler was deleted.

    ^^Exactly

    I've posted this before:

Delete the resonator to let YOU know you have a loud car; delete the muffler to let EVERYONE ELSE know you have a loud car
