Oil on Threads of Spark Plug

    Hey everybody!

So I just changed my plugs at 70k on my 2011 Avant. I was told when I bought it that the plugs were changed at 50k so I'm guessing these plugs have 20k on them.

Anyways, I was surprised to see oil on the threads of one. This one was the closest to the front of the vehicle. The electrode looks good (no oil on it) and I had no symptoms of misfire. No oil on the coils either.

What do you guys think? What could oil on the threads mean? If it was the head gasket I would expect oil on the electrode too.

    Thanks.

Also...I haven't noticed any oil consumption issues.

It's not uncommon on our cars for the oil from the fill neck to ooze around if it is spilled. Unless there are other symptoms I wouldn't be too concerned. My valve cover always looks oily for the same reason.

Your valve cover gasket is leaking around the sparkplug holes.

Every Audi I've owned has had oil on the sparks after removing them. It's the leaky VCG as stated above.
