    APR Stage II

So I have been following this site for a while but rarely post. I am at APR Stage I in a 2013 B8.5 S4 now and want to go to the more Torquey stage. If I purchase the overpriced pulley they provide, can I have my own mechanic install and then take it to the same place and have it flashed to Stage II? Are there any additional charges associated after the pulley purchase to anticipate? Thanks in advance!

Yes your mechanic can do the install and you can take it to another shop to flash. It is safe to drive it with the pulley and that flash not installed yet. Your other shop may charge a fee to flash to stage 2 though, some do and some don't.

Do you have 6mt or dsg? If you are 6mt you might need a clutch soon.

And if dsg then you will want the tcu tune.

When you buy the pulley kit it includes a software code for the stage II tune. Don't loose that.

Hoping to ask a side question. I have 2011 Audi A4 b8 and I recently got the fully loaded ECU with 4 programs for stage 1 by APR. how much will the flash be for stage 2 if I get the HFC installed? My APR wants $300-$400 for stage 2 flash. Is that right?

You can install the pulley yourself. The software is included for free with it.

    You'll love the gains.

I went straight to stage 2 on a 6MT. Clutch is ok so far (knock on wood). My cost was 2.5 hours for the install of the pulley. And 1150 for the sale price of the software. I was told flashing was $55 to go back and forth from stock for dealer visits.

If you are already stage 1, you would just have to pay that shop fee for their time to flash it.

This all depends on how you drive it. When driving normally to somewhat aggressively the stock clutch is fine.
That said, I overheated the clutch and had a ton of slippage while launching the car. And this was when I was still stage 1. Today (currently stage 2) the clutch slipped quite a bit with some aggressive shifting. So conditions and driving style will play a large part in this.

Thanks for the replies. I have the DSG. Just wanted to make sure I didn't need anyone specific to install the pulley. At 83k, any concerns with upgrading at this mileage? Car runs great otherwise...

Plugs should be done. You will do a new belt with your pulley. Make sure your DSG services are up to date . Have fun

I also recommend the ECS transmission inserts at minimum. Without, you are really going to feel that trans slap around when you punch it. It's pretty cheap and install is 10 minutes.

RE: Clutch. Stage 1 on my GTI had me slipping almost immediately and it only had 12k miles on it. I drove that car really aggressively. I've been pretty tame with the s4, but a stock clutch is not made to hold up on a 30% power gain.

Depends on your clutch practice. I've been stage 2 for years with 0 slip or clutch issues. I don't launch though. That being said - I'm only at 36k miles on the car...

tempted in going to stage 2 as well. However, according to the APR site, the gains of stg 2 over stg 1 is just 17 hp and 18 tq. With those gains will the butt dyno feel it? Those number gains are a bit more than adding an intake which I did not feel any difference once installed.

Most of the gains felt will be daily driving under the curve power.

I went stock straight to stage 2 and feel the power is more everywhere so normal drivability is similar. My wife drove the car for the first time since going to stage 2. She said she did not like it, because she could too easily get in trouble.
