Ipod/phone lightning cable

I picked up a yellow ring adapter cable for my ipod/iphone for my 2011 S4 with B&O. But the car doesn't see either device. The devices charge (and get super hot) but thats it. Tried another cable from a friends car and it doesn't work either (I haven't tried my devices in his car however. he uses Android and has no iphones so hasn't tried it himself). Do I have the wrong cable, or is there something in the setup menus I'm missing?

Sounds like the cable. I got a iPod dock extender off amazon.com for my 2011. Then used a 30pin to lightning converter to plug into my phone. Gives me plenty of cord to have my iphone in my console while driving.

If you plug your phone directly into the stock harness does it work? (you'll need a 30pin to lightning adapter)
