    Tire Wear Both Front Tires

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Question for the Brain Trust.
Just had all four tires replaced at Costco.
On the receipt, tech wrote down that car is in of a alingment.
I called the tech at Costco, he verify that both front tires eere wearing excessively on the inside of both tires.
Car had an alingment two years ago when both bushing on the front was replaced.
Car tracks perfectly and has 107k.

Based on my knowledge, both tires has excessive negative camber.
Is this possible? It's completely stock 2004 S4.
Is it possible that the front coil springs have passed its like and it needs a new set of front coil springs to bring the height back up / remove the excess negative camber?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

    I'd get an alignment check ASAP, it's been 2 years . . .

bad toe can wear the inside of the tires rather quickly

It is possible. My b6 avant had excessive wear on inner tires(front) . Don't dick around with tire shops to do it. Goodyear did it and I brought it back 3 times. Ended up taking it to sunset Audi where it was done perfectly.

$100 for an alignment vs. $600 for new shoes... seems like a no-brainer... if your suspension is worn I'm sure you'd notice while driving.

It's been 2 years! Shit! These pigs go out of alignment every 6 months.

Don't take it back to Costco. Take it to an Audi dealer for the alignment.

How often do you rotate tires and are you running proper tire pressure? 46f/32r unladen

    Guys
    Thanks for responding.
My buddy that's a Master Porsche tech did the alingment last time. The car tracks 100%
I think the problem is, when family takes the car to Costco to have "air" put in, it's my understanding that they refuse to inflate it to what I used to put. 46 # lbs front and rear. Wife's been driving the S4...in 12 years of ownership, I've never experienced this before. I used to insist inflate the tires myself.....

I will refer to the owners manual, but in all these years, I'v always pump them up to 43 + and haven'texperience any issues. For the past year, since I'm not available majority of the time, I've simply asked wife to tend to this "basic " maintenence. Lesson for my wife...which cost us about $800 for a complete set of Michelins...
Oh, rotating the tires, I don't think family has ever taken it back to Costco for that too.. another to do task once every 6 months.

Okay, owners manual recommend 39/ f and 36/r.
On a vehicle for say a trip where one will drive extended periods on the highway. Its recommend that one add an additional 5 pound of air. No wonder I never had the inside 1/8 inch wear out on the two front tires. I will also take the car for an alingment at Audi dealer too....just to make sure so.

Problem identified: You are trusting Costco technicians.

Ya, I know what you mean about Costco tech. I have a feeling that they put something like 36 lbs in the tires. At least that's what they mentioned to me in the past. Afterwards. I insisted that I put the air myself. I think its a Costco directive...example, if I wanted a taller tires for my Honda Civic...185 x14 and I want 195 x14. They will not sell it to me. In that instant, I went to another tire company...

Hmmm I've been putting 39 front 35 rear for some time now because that's what it says on the little card on the driver's door frame. I purchased my tires from Discount Tires and their paperwork said 42 psi is the max I should ever use "at full capacity" but I'll try pumping my tires up by 5 psi each because almost all of my miles are highway driving.

Haven't had any uneven tire wear though, and will pumping up my tire pressures reduce or increase fuel economy?

Well, basedvon the factory owners manual, it did mention to add 5 lbs if one was doing freeway speeds. For years, I've been putting 44 to 46 lbs on the car. Regarding the max amount of pressure for a tire, its molded on the side wall on the tire. I used to run low pressure at the start of a track event...My Toyo R888, I would start with 27 lbs cold and keep them at 33 lbs. Regarding wear, the higher pressure will get you a little better gas mileage. Please note: I run Michelins, other mfg will be different. With a complete new set of Michelins, car is heading for a complete 4 wheel alingment this week...ps, for past year, I allowed wife to tend to the S4...

I am surprised at the discrepancy between the B6 and B7 for what is basically the same car.
