3G module replacement

Anyone have problem with 2g T-Mobile module replacement to 3G AT&T under warranty.
I just heard from Audi customer support that I am not eligible for free replacement. Reason I'm not the first owner. Even though I bought 2year old car with 12000 miles with factory warranty still on. I am even Audi owner since 2003. As is right now According to Audi people who are not buying brand new car are second hand customers.
Please help if someone have the same issue as me. I will not let it go till I get what I want.

I had mine replaced with no cost to me and I am the second owner of my 2012 A7. I did have Audi Connect at the time. It was about a year ago and I got a letter from t-mobile and then a letter from Audi indicating they would replace it at no cost to me. Do you currently have Audi Connect? I have heard some people that signed up for the minimum package, got the module upgraded and then let it expire. I see you are in Illinois. Did you get a letter from Audi regarding the 2G to 3G swap, and which dealer do you use?

They told me that I am not eligible because I am not the first owner. I use Morton Grove Audi and spoke already with them so they suppose to contact Audi support and hope they resolve my issue.
I don't understand one thing. Car was not even 3 years old when I start that all original warranties are present and I feel like have lemon car
The think is that I will dig it as long as I get that letter I will not let it go

I bought my A7 and S7 from them, but I would never service my vehicle there. I use Hoffman Audi great service with no issues.

I live between them so I just get used to. Honestly I can't complain plus there's only one man ( mechanic I know) who I always pick to work on my car

For what it's worth, that dealership (Morton Grove) replaced my module under the service action (no cost to me).

My car is CPO, though I don't know why that should affect anything, since it was still under the OEM factory warranty when they replaced it.

One further question, though: Given that 3G is still a pretty slow connection, and that most mobile phone plans include the ability to use the phone as a "personal hotspot", and at 4G LTE speeds, what's the advantage of having a slow connection through the car itself? I just cancelled the data plan I had with T-Mobile for the SIM card in the car because it really doesn't provide much in the way of usefulness...

This is completely incorrect. I bought my CPO A6 last September and had the module replaced and the system updated in January. My dealer and Audi did it with zero cost to me. I would contact AoA and get them involved. Best of luck!

I contacted AoA because my dealer wouldn't do the upgrade and they were the ones who told me that since I wasn't the original owner they wouldn't do the upgrade. My car is also still under the factory warranty.

So wrong of the dealer. I hope AoA gets it straightened out. Also, you will have to have a current Audi Connect subscription to have the update done.

Just to clarify my original post that is very poorly worded. I contacted my local dealer first about the upgrade and they said they did not see any notice that I am eligible for an upgrade so they wouldn't do it. So I called AoA to see if they could help me get the upgrade done and they told me that I had to receive a letter to have the upgrade completed and be the first owner. There is no way I could have received a letter though since I purchased my car used and had never signed up for an audi connect account, so they didn't have my information. If anything was sent, it went to the original owner. They then told me that once I activated my account I would see faster speeds than 2g coming to my car, so I bought a 1 month subscription to see. The 2g logo has definitely not changed, but not sure if it could be faster and just not changing the display??? Not sure why some of us are being told that you have to be the original owner of the car, if you have a factory warranty that should be good enough. I am going to try AoA again on Monday and see if I can get some better answers.

Fight for it
I will not let it go even though Speed is slow and not worth it.
The point is this is premium brand. And this is not customers fault that T mobile gave up. I will update as soon as I hear from McGrath I mean Morton grove Audi.

If you're under warranty, activate the system then go to the dealer complaining of it dropping to 2G a lot. That's what I did. They replaced the module the next day no questions asked. Sorry to hear you guys are having trouble.

Has anyone tried using their AT&T 3G simm card in their system?
If you have an activated card from an iPad, BB or any other tablet it will work perfectly in your car, especially if T-Mobile is giving trouble.
We spent a lot of time with this on the B8 boards.
I swapped out my T-Mobile card today for my AT&T card with no issues.

Curious why do you care about the 3G module? What does it do for you beyond google maps?

Absolutely nothing. But for back seat kids to connect to wifi it's a great distraction. I personally prefer my LTE connection.

You got your point however I want in my car everything working. If there's an option It must be done either it's slow or fast or I will use it or not. Right now its for me more like goal that I have to achieve.

I just had my unit replaced yesterday. It was out of stock for a bit. Since swapping it out the Freedom POP AT&T SIM card works perfectly in 3G. Previously it wouldn't connect and only showed 2G

i just got my 2g replaced to 3g for free. works with my freedom pop. as a random bonus, i got traffic now too for some reason. i have sirius subscription and it did not have traffic and now i get it for some reason.

Audi of America won't approve me to get an upgrade since I am not the original owner and my local dealer (I did not get my car there) won't do the upgrade. I am going to try some other dealers, but I am not getting any love getting my upgraded. Glad it worked out for you though man, maybe I need to drive out to Texas.

This is how I grease the wheels at the dealer. I find a service rep I like and take it into service. Then I tip him/her an $50 gift card or something. Then I tip him/her end of every year too. This gets my warranty requests through each time...and I always get to drop/pick up car w/loaner anytime I want. They actually don't make me fill up gas tank either if I forget :)

I'm the second owner, and I bought it elsewhere (not CPO). Audi dealer replaced under warranty with no hassles.

MAJOR REASON IS THAT THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE ENOUGH PARTS TO ACCOMMODATE THE AUDI CUSTOMERS THAT ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE UPDATE. THEY TELL ME ANY EXCEPTIONS WILL BE HARD TO COME BY AND THOSE WONT EVEN HAPPEN IF THE CUSTOMER IS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER AS IS IN YOUR CASE. I would call Audi CS directly, that's what I did. It took 2-3 weeks to get the letter and the dealer takes that letter to get the correct parts. Just had it done in my 13 about 2 weeks ago

I would call Scott at Audi of Hoffman Estates and see if he can help you. He has been great to work with in my experience. One key is I believe you need to have a current Audi Connect subscription, but I don't know why not being the original owner would make a difference. I am the second owner and I had it done under warranty last year when the letters first came out here in Chicagoland.

I am the second owner- bought at CarMax with CarMax extended warranty- was under factory warranty for 2 years when I bought it. I will note I told them I used to have an Audi Connect subscription (seemed to be a sticking point) but told them I canceled when the 2G speeds made the functions not work, and canceled the subscription because of that.

Regarding what flyfishing has said they do a full MMI software upgrade as well among other things. So if could be related to any of the 3 changes they made per the work order. I'm under warranty for another couple thousand miles and then I'm onto my extended. That may have also helped.

By the way you get the letter of you have an active subscription which is why I never got the letter. Shouldn't matter ownership, I think they send them out from the list of subscribers.

Today as I was using my navigation (which I rarely use b/c IMO it sucks to input stuff), I saw an option that I never saw "destination from Audi connect." I opened audi app and now my car shows up in the app with a pin. I put the pin in and the car accepted it. Now when I use google maps, I can use the share option and send to AUDI CONNECT and combined with my free data from freedompop, the destination shows up!!
