    TD1 woes and the workaround

I took my car to the dealer about 4mos ago to have the ECU/TCU update. My car had harsh shifts (dont recall TSB #) and I figured the warranty would cover it. The SA informs me that my car was flagged for a TD1 a couple years prior by the previous owner due to a tune and that they could not cover the update. He added by saying there was 1 rare case where the ECU update actually cleared the TD1 from Audi's database. Without a guarantee and much reluctance, I forked out $400 for the update in hopes that my TD1 would go away. When I picked up the car, the SA said the TD1 cleared from their side but it will take some time before it syncs up with Audi's database. I didnt really understand the specifics but went about my way totally forgot to check back.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when my separator valve failed:

In addition to that, I discovered that my turbo lines were leaking. I scheduled an appointment with my SA and dropped the car off. The SA calls me back later that day and gave me the great news. My car was free and clear of any trace of a TD1 in Audi's database. The repair was fully covered and I walked out paying $0!! Unfortunately my factory warranty expires in September, so I wont get to reap the full benefits of my newly found warranty. I hope someone with TD1 woes can try this and confirm it works for them as well. I'll post the TSB's as well if anyone wants it.

Nice work, and thanks for sharing, OP! This has come up a few times on the forum in that there's been Audi documentation shared stating that TD1 can be removed if flashed back to factory software. It has successfully worked for a few guys on the B8 S4 forum as well (and maybe agent47 with his C7?), but it's my belief most people don't think to go back to stock once they've been flagged.
