You pour it into the gas tank, so it won't do anything to clean the intake valves on our DI engine.

This is probaly something that would only work if you start using it from your first oil change. My girl only had 1000km so thanks for posting this I'm going to start using it.

I use it every 1000 miles. Started as soon as I got my new 2016 S3. I think of it as a part of routine maintenance, just to keep my fuel system clean. finklejag is correct, it has less affect on DI engines.

OK so I bought the CRC and the beauty of it is that I have the CTS piping kit with the meth bung that I can use to spray to right into the throttle plate and valves.

I let you all know how it turns out.

I've always used SeaFoam in the past; both my '08 & '09 SS turbo 'balts were first generation DI engines that were notorious for intake valve buildup. Start the car, let the engine warm up, pop off a vacuum line that feeds all cylinders, the brake booster vacuum line on most cars...attach a piece of vacuum hose to the port, dunk it in the SeaFoam can and let the engine sip it up almost to the point of stalling (an assistant on the throttle helps here). Once you're down half a can or so, I just let it suck up enough that it actually causes the engine to stall, shut the engine off. Let it sit for 30-45 mins and then start it back up, go flog the car up a couple freeway onramps for 10 miles or so (LOTS of smoke from your exhaust), come home, let it cool down. I dump the rest of the can into the oil to clean gunk off of bearings/out of lifters/off the crankcase and then do an oil and filter change within ~50 miles. Someone on the SS forums did a bore scope before/after and it was a big difference in the buildup on the valves, not as good as a professional cleaning but it removed the majority. The S3 will probably get the same treatment once it hits 25K.

I used the CRC valve cleaner on my old A3 with good results considering the amount of miles on the car by the time I started using it. After having to get my Q5's engine cleaned at 50k miles, I decided I'll be using it every 10k miles or so paired with oil changes as part of my regular service, same on my new 8V A3. You can get the stuff pretty cheap and I figured if you start on it early, it should curb the build up...hopefully.

I am new to EA888 engine. What is the best way for this DIY intake cleaning? The CRC cleaner has to be instilled after the mass air flow sensor right?

There isn't a MAF sensor on this car. There is MAP sensor and you would probably have to do it after that sensor as well. It is located on the throttle pipe between the IC and the TB. Aftermarket throttle pipes, like the CTS Turbo throttle pipe have a nipple for meth injection that can probably be used for this purpose. Not sure what you would have to do on the stock plastic throttle pipe.

I plan on using the temperature probe port. Spraying as close to the valves as possible. I honestly haven't looked where that is located on the EA888 engine yet though.
