    Tune-Friendly Monteral Dealers?

    Hi Fellow Audi Drivers,

I'm wondering if any of you have experience with taking your in-warranty tuned vehicles to Montreal area dealers for service. I'm currently doing my service at Popular Audi in Montreal. I like the dealer and they seemed ok with my AWE exhaust modification. My Service Advisor is a good guy, I sort of brought up the topic of an ECU tune and he gave me the stock response that "it is only a warranty issue if the tune causes the problem." Of course, proving cause and effect is not easy and Audi Canada holds all the cards. They can claim any problem in tune related and it would be difficult to impossible for an owner to prove otherwise. So just wondering if anyone out there is living this experience and if you have had any good (or bad) experiences with local Audi dealers.

    Happy driving,

    JH

I will never deal with Popular ever again. Yes, the service advisor are great but it's the head servce manager is incompetent.

Good to hear. So far I haven't had any issues but I haven't been with them that long. In terms of proximity it was Popular or Park Avenue in Brossard. Where are you going currently?

I live in the Plateau and a few mins away from Popular but I prefer the service @ Lauzon.

There really is no such thing as a 'tune-friendly' dealer anymore. In order for the dealership to be paid by Audi (in most cases), they're required to plug your vehicle into Audi's system, that will automatically determine whether or not your ECU has a tune on it, and flag you accordingly.
There are, however, 'mod-friendly' dealers, if that's what you mean. They can turn a blind eye to your exhaust, intake, suspension, etc

And it's when you actually have an issue to address that would be typically covered under the original warranty or CPO, that's where the headache starts Some have even experienced challenges in getting a recall performed (related to the engine for example) difficult as the car's been flagged.

For regular service, most dealers don't care. Some may make a note in the service record for reference in the future.

Is Popular closed? I pass by today and they're closed. Either renovating or closeting.

Park Avenue in Brossard are pretty open with mods, but I was very disappointed with them taking more than 7hrs to change a wheel bearing....

Off topic question. If I get a service from one dealer and then go to another dealer from a different group i.e prestige to lauzon, would they have a record of my previous service. I'm asking because one of the service techs told me they don't share info if it's not within the same group. Thx

Well I bought out the lease of a friend's S4 and the dealer was able to see all the work done by two different dealerships in Toronto. If it's warranty work it would have to be in the system, not sure about stuff that's covered under warranty like oil changes and such - I would assume it would be.

And honestly, whether a dealer is open to mods or not, it's a moot point if you have a warranty claim and your car's been TD1'ed. It's AOA that has final say on whether the dealer can proceed with the work or not because it's AOA that's footing the bill for warranty work from how I understand it.
