Is there a better car than the RS7?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
For the second time yesterday I drove my friends rs7 and I have to say it's the perfect car in every way. It's like m a6 but better in every possible way! The interior is perfect. Th exterior is perfect. It's probably the only car I can say is great in stock form and aside from spacers and maybe some vag com lowering I wouldn't do a thing to it! I asked my friend what he will get next, he currently has a Ferrari California, g55 and Aston Martin vantage roadster, he said he doesn't know because he hasn't found anything better. Now I just need to make more money so I can get an rs7!

It's a very subjective question. Amazing car, but not for everyone. For the space I'd prefer an RS6 or without space limitations a 911 Turbo. Not taking anything away from the RS7, amazing car, but I'm not a fan of the hatchback look.

Depends on what you are looking for. If shopping in the 4-door high performance coupe segment only, then many would argue that the Porsche Panamera is the much better drivers car. The Panamera's active air suspension and handling, especially combined with the active chassis control puts the RS7 to shame. The RS7 with air suspension is a great straight line performer, but starts falling apart at about 7/10. To get better handling you have to give up some of the comfort and go with the DRC suspension. The Panamera's active air suspension with chassis control puts the RS7 to shame even against the DRC. Similar situation in the steering department. The Panamera is just a more balanced, more dynamic, better handling car. Lookswise, they both are awkward as far as the current generation is concerned, but the new redesigned Panamera is a looker, too.

The new Turbo Porsche Panamera is much better looking than the older model Panamera: http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/pa...turesandspecs/

For a $150k+ 4 door, the new Turbo Porsche Panamera is a pretty good choice, if the looks appeal to you. Rear end reminds me of the 1964 Jaguar XKE hardtop.

The fastback/hatchback style seems to be a polarizing style: like or dislike, as in the 1967 to 1975 fastback/hatchback styling.

I've driven both the Panamera and RS7.

The RS7 has loads more power and the current gen has a better interior and exterior. The next gen Panamera has it beat but the price is also next gen. Lol

With the Eurocode setup and air suspension, the RS7 beats the Panamera soundly. DRC is too stiff for me. Air suspension is useful and keeps the ride comfortable, and the Eurocode sways and Alu kruez tighten it up.

RS7 has to be one of the best four door cars in the states... just amazing.
That said -- and I know it's new to me -- but I really enjoy the experience of driving the GT3 more. It's way more raw, much more of an immersive experience that heightens all the senses whether you're hitting mountain roads, going red light to red light or opening it up on the freeway.

It's hard to really do anything with a stage 2 RS7... hit the gas for a second and you're doing 100mph, which I'm definitely not against, but it's not very prolonged before you have to come to your senses. A few seconds and you're in the "I'm going to jail" territory. D mode is OK getting around town but lacks the initial throttle response and S mode is almost impossible to feather the throttle light enough to not jerk around all over the place.

I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, which is why I decided NOT to sell the RS7 for now. I wanted to be 100% certain I could live without it and they both serve completely different purposes for me. Shit, now that I have Bilstein PSS10s on my APR tuned Golf R with a 6 speed, I almost have just as much fun with that.

That said, the RS7 gets way more compliments, instagram likes, photos at red lights than the Porsche does. Met my wife for lunch today and came out and had a couple dudes standing around the car taking photos. If it's attention you're after, a Nogaro Blue RS7 will give that to you! Just not sure how much attention I want anymore. :)

Granted I don't have a RS7 but just an S6, but as I think about next cars, only a 911cab seems appealing to me. However, with the space restrictions, it's not for everyone.

I think the new panamera may give the RS7 a run for it's money... errr well not the money. I'm sure a new panny turbo s is going to be nearly $200k with options haha. But seriously, in the class of 4 door sedans today the RS7 is the best in terms of compromise between styling, performance, handling and price.

It's hard to compare an A7/S7/RS7 to any true driver focused sports car however... I could never give up my R8 for an RS7. The new huracan... maybe

I think the RS7 is one the best 4 door "super sport sedans" out there. I'd take it over a Panamera. They just need to fix that hump on the hatchback to take the ugly out.

What's funny is that everyone is all excited about the new Panamera but it looks like the exact same curvature of the RS7 on the rear now. It used to be much more rounded squared off on the back with a steeper drop off. Check profile pics side by side with an RS7 and it's pretty damn close.

For handling it's hard to beat Porsche but P-Car tax is almost unbearable. The current gen. Panemera is not a looker so it's an easy decision to give up handling for RS7 but the new Panamera Turbo is just plain stunning in look category and I'm sure the handling will be better than RS7 as well. However at the price, I have many choices that will drive way better than a Panamera.

For me, it's the RS6, which luckily for me is available in the Australian market.

Only drawback is the pricetag. Awesome car that balances practicality, performance and looks perfectly IMO.

it still doesn't look like the rs7, haha

it's a 991 that got stretched. the fastback bit, the profile that he's talking about, still doesn't really hit the same lines.

    http://resources.carsguide.com.au/st...a-2017-(4).jpg

    and

    http://cms.gregwhite.tv/image/medium...s7-profile.jpg

there are so many design elements that don't line up between them that it just doesn't jive. Even the silhouette doesn't line up that much.

The beltline is lower and more defined on the rs7. the nose turns down much harder on the rs7, where the nose on the panny suggests a more upward push. the panny is still a jellybean, the rs7 has more of a straight-chopped shooting brake shape without actually being one.

you had said 'from the back'. the differences just explode on that angle.

there just wasn't that much design language borrowed by either. They're both hot, but they're both uniquely hot. The only way they bear any resemblance is if you just glance briefly.

re: op: plenty of better cars. rs7 makes a lot of sense for what it is, though.

There are many better cars available from both a driving enjoyment/engagement perspective, and in regards to overall performance. But as far as a four-door that is good at everything; the RS7 is certainly near the top of the list.

OK you make some good points and you have obviously spent a lot more time than I have analyzing the lines. But I just want to clarify when I said 'from the back' what I meant was the back/rear of the car as seen from the side profile. You have to admit that when looking at that aspect it looks closer to the RS 7 then the previous Panamera did. I agree they are both amazing cars.

Besides the panamera and A7 being the fastback style, they are not even close looks-wise imo. Both look great imo but the panamera turbo seems to be clearly the better vehicle overall. I don't believe price is a defining feature of being a "better" vehicle. If you want to talk price, then let's compare an A4 wagon on a cost efficiency basis, that would be ridiculous. Better at any price, the RS7 is close, but isn't the best.

For a 4-door rocket the RS7 is probably #1 currently. We will have to see how the Panamera does when the new one comes out. I saw a jalop article about a E63 Black Series...which could be interesting!

    that '17+ e63 looks ridiculous.

RS7 has a lot more street presence than a RS6. Drive behind them in traffic and you'll see what I mean.
