Quick question on the pin connection. So I cleaned my MAF and while in the process some of the plastic in the connector (harness) broke off. I noticed that there was only 4 metal prongs in the connector and 5 on the sensor. Is this correct?

Yes that is correct. The 1.8T harness connector only has four terminal connections. The fifth connection is used for an intake air temperature sensor. With turbos the IAT is mounted on the throttle body. For non-turbo applications the IAT can be incorporated into the MAF sensor.

I do not mean to thread jack but while we're on the subject of MAF's... I was looking for a MAF at the junk yard for my car and stumbled upon a 2.0 golf with a almost brand new MAF, would this MAF work on our 1.8T's??

Check the part number on the sensor itself (not the housing). If it ends in 049 you should be good to go.
