Looking for DIY Carbon fiber kit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got some parts I want to wrap myself in high quality, heat resistant carbon fiber material or wrap. Two pieces being my front/rear lip. Before I invest in a new one I'd like to experiment and see if I can save them myself. I've got some plastic parts I'd like to wrap also.

If anyone as experience with DIY yourself kit's sort of like this one here: please suggest.

I'm looking for very reasonably priced kits or if anyone has other solutions I'd love to hear.

Looking for a canyon to carve.

Carbon Fiber can be purchased in normal lengths to do what you want to do - you don't need a kit. You'll need to understand the size of your parts, and the # of layers you need + eff-ups. So something like 5-7 yards of 52" wide should get you plenty to get the job done. You simply have to find the carbon finish you want (usually a 2k weave) because it will impact how your finished product will look.
Purchase a marine quality UV STABLE resin system.

You can get this at any standard sailboat/yacht repair house, all over the web etc... UV STABLE is critical and how you avoid the usual yellowing that occurs.

If you follow that guide, you'll do fine. Take your time, do a test part or two and learn the process. Sanding is critical to getting a smooth surface.

there is no "kit" that's going to get you perfect results out of the gate - it's a long, tiring process with tons of hand sanding to get quality.
    hope that helps.

have you ever done some fiberglass/composite work ?

I'd suggest "practicing" on a scrap part , before you do the lips. (expensive, but you get a little experience)

carbon fiber work really looks bad if you screw it up.
