AC Recirc Mode is Always ON

Hello guys. Yesterday I removed my glove box, because my lid hinge is broken and I have to fix it. I had an access to the blower motor amd I saw that: when I turn my AC ON with and w/o RECIRC mode the motor lid goes in open position. Decided to remove the cabin filter under the hood and I saw the lid under the cabin filter it stays closed at all the time when the AC is on. Turn off the AC and the motor lid goes in closed position and that one on the cabin filter compartment goes in open positions. I have bad smell coming from the air vents at the summer and I tried to fix it but nothing helped. Probably that's the reason, because when the AC is ON I didn't get fresh air. Is this the way how AC suppose to works or I have some electrical problem? Thank you!

Usually the A/C will be in recirc mode while it's cooling the cabin off after starting the car. Once the heat load drops I'm sure it opens. Do you have access to a VCDS cable to check for codes on the HVAC unit?

Yes, this is the design. And when mine opens, I can feel the air in the car getting far more humid so I always hit the recirc button no matter what in AC. At the point the outside air is 88˚F and the inside air is in the 70's, you get much better cooling when you blow that cooler air over the evaporator.

Unfortunately I don't have it. I want to get VCDC cable, but I don't know from where and what kind. Thank you so much! I hope everything is ok. Usually my wife drives the car and she keeps AC on low level. Maybe that's not the way she has to keep it. I think it's almost impossible the temperature to drops so low if outside is above 90 and that's why AC keeps running in RECIRC mode....or it's not? Thank you!

It's also a factor of humidity. I know you guys get humid summers in chicago. I just leave my HVAC in auto mode all the time. Let the car take care of it. If you want to minimize odor, shut off the A/C compressor before you park the car so the blower can dry out the evaporator and that'll prevent mildew from growing and causing the odor.
