Random/Sporadic EPC Light - Intake Manifold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have been getting a random EPC light on the car over the last few days. Doesnt seem to effect thw driveability and the car runs fine .

Scanned the codes and it came back with the following:

Any idea what would cause this? I am assuming it may have something to do with those connections to the sensors as the whole manifold was replaced 20k miles ago. I am going to pull the connections off an clean them over the next few days. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think I had the same codes and replaced the sensor and it went away.

Replace both of the sensors and the code won't come back. I had the same problem
2008 What can I say, I had to get another RS. Jackal Tune, Gruppe M Intake, Escort IXc, Euro Seats, Euro Steering Wheel, JHM Intake Spacers, Custom 2.5 exhaust w/x-pipe, JHM SS Lines & more to come

Update: Car threw a CEL on the way home. Codes were as follows:

P2020: Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2A
P2015: Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1A

Still the same diagnosis or could I have some thing else going on like a vacuum leak, etc?

Sucks that these sensors could go out in just under 20K if that is ultimately what they end up being. Thanks for all the insight so far. It is greatly appreciated.

Since it's both banks, I'd say it's more likely that the vacuum lines connected to the flap arm solenoids are messed up. Or the solenoid controller is done.

Run this test if you've got VCDS: http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?t=77235

    Komseh, thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, I dont have access to VCDS. I have an appointment for Friday morning at a local euro shop. Ill update this thread after they figure out what it is. Sadly, troubleshooting this is beyond my access to tools at the moment. Hopefully, its just a vaccuum issue.

So long story short. I no longer own the RS4.

Took it to the first shop and they could not diagnose the issue but noted several issues with values on the engine harness itself (Several sensors began to get a sporadic reading/Car was acting weird electrically). Took it to Audi and they stated it needed a new manifold. Additionally, I developed on oil leak on the back right timing chain cover. Oddly enough after going back through the old service records I had for the car I found out it was no the first time it has had electrical issues and in fact had the cluster replaced at one point.

Audi offered me a decent number on the trade with the issues the way the car sat and I took it. Quiet frankly I was done putting money into the car, did some simple math, and found out that based on the associated costs with the new maintenance I would be money ahead in the long run. It was a fun while it lasted but the car simply became un-affordable rather quickly.

On another note I do have a few parts for sale that I was planning on putting on the car but I seeing as how I no longer have it they are up for grabs. See list below:

Schwaben Professional Scan Tool (For Audi/Volkswagen)
    Axle Seals (OEM)/Axle (Duralast)
All bolts/hardware for doing axle seal change
M14x1.5 lug to stud conversion kit with conical lugs (fits 10mm spacers in the front 20mm in rear) - Brand new

I may have a few other things but I will have to look. If anyone is interested in any of that let me know. For now I am stepping away from Audis for a bit and went with a cheap daily driver. Luckily, still a six speed manual and a turbo .

Sorry the RS4 is gone, but happy that money pit is gone at the same time. Good luck with your new ride. Tech and safety in newer cars is just insane these days as well. I have had to sell a few cars in the past that became money pit fast and German cars without warranty are no exception to making you a religious person overnight :)

Good luck! Also highly appreciate the follow up to the issue.
Switched to Tesla and have never been happier. No more shady mechanic bills and excuses - oil top off before an oil change is normal or dealing with outdated forums that have image size limitations. And no more dealing with vendors that do not provide horsepower numbers but sell you random things by labeling them as performance parts. No more dealing with the Audi dealership and having to buy custom Audi specific tools. Wow. I can't believe I lived through all of this. Money pit.

    How much for the scanner?
