Replacing D2 A8 CATS - aftermarket vs OEM?

I've gotten CEL PO420 code on my passenger cat. The tranny is being rebuilt which means that the two front cats are fully accessible. New OEM is around 3K for the front cats - aftermarket less than 1K. Anyone out there been in this dilemma and went the custom built (not universal) aftermarket route? Thanks for your feedback, especially with any experience you've had using DEC Catalytic Converters from Van Nuys, CA. The online reviews for aftermarket cats are mixed...I'd appreciate some Audi driver feedback.

What year is your car! If it's a 2001 and newer the ecu if it's a me7.1.1 can be coded. I did it to mine and coded out my cats! So I don't use my rear o2 sensors anymore.
