'17 TTS CarPlay

Hi

Just curious if anyone knows how CarPlay will work in the '17 model. All of the other CarPlay enabled audis have a center screen so I'm a bit unclear how it will integrate.

I'm hoping that fact will make me not regret the fact that I will not have it. Might be interesting and semi cluttered? Maybe I'll ty to get a TTRS.

The lawyers certainly aren't going to let you reach thru the steering wheel for touch-sensitive Apple Carplay. But likely a more familiar App-type interface via the console touchpad. Obviously more limited functionality without a center screen and direct touch.

Well in-case anyone is interested, this is the response Audi Customer Service in the US provided:

We are pleased to learn that you are interested in the new Audi TTS. Apple CarPlay is part of the technology package that can be ordered on the vehicle, even though there is only one screen (Virtual Cockpit). The way that CarPlay displays on the screen is similar to the way any other content does. The tachometers are on the far right and left sides of the screen and the content-such as CarPlay, navigation map or radio stations-display in the center. You can change the size of the tachometers to show less or more of the content in the middle of the screen.

What about updating the '15/'16 models? I don't think that the '17 model come with a different hardware... Hope I'm not dreaming...

Has anyone actually picked up a '17 yet and can confirm whether or not it has Carplay? I'd love to know how it's integrated.

They have one at my dealer. Didn't look inside, but it says they have the smartphone interface...

Hope that helps. Audi has all their owners manuals online. The next few pages of the manual goes more in depth on each supported feature but I didn't bother taking a picture as getting it to show up on the dash was half the battle

Thanks for posting. I wouldn't mind having it, but I don't think I'll mind too much not having it.

Is it me or is Apple Car Play just a pain vs purely running MMI? I have to spend more time with it, but using it disables MMI Telephone capability and you are force to navigate through CarPlay. Right?

Yep, it's either garbage or too advanced for me to figure out. Most of the time I am trying to figure out what's preventing my connection. BT, MMI, Play...BT works fine, but I need it charging too.

Yes, so it's not just me. For the life of me I can't figure out how to play the songs on my phone over the cord without using car play.

When I try playing amazon music, it says no playable formats.
I will say that plugging in a thumb drive easily plays mp3's....so I've gone that route for music.
