    Windshield Replacement shops - NNJ

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ruined my day this morning while driving to work. Received a nice crack that starts in the bottom left corner of the drivers side and extends diagonally upwards/across the windshield and is approximately 12-14 inches. I'll try to upload a picture or two after work tonight.

Any recommended shops in the northern new jersey area that performs windshield replacements? I'd be looking for OEM. I started the process with Geico and they use Safelite. Should I just go through them? I'm somewhat concerned with them damaging some other parts of the car during the install.

Any help would be appreciated. Going to end up holding off on window tints now because of this nice repair cost

I use to manage a automotive glass company back in the days before safelite got big. The first thing is you need to request oem glass. If you do not they will give you aftermarket. Now there is aftermarket glass that is close to oem but will not have the audi logo on it. They can tell with your vin# if your glass has any special features like heated or heads up display etc. All their technicians are certified. They do warranty their work.

Now if you go to dealer its the same crap. The dealer subs the work to safelite or a local glass company they work with. In this case you have have a better chance of getting a oem glass but it may cost you more.

Some basic information after you do the job is no car wash for a week.If it rains its fine not enough pressure to cause a problem. Try not to drive the car after the job is done for a few hours. When driving keep it under 55mph you do not want the glass to shift which will give you leaks. If you hear extreme wind noise after 2 weeks you might have a small gap between the windshield and glue.

I had my windshield replaced 4 years ago for around 120. Dont think the glass is OEM but all is well so far.

    Ugh, Sorry to hear this!

I had Geico replace my windshield with Safelite. It was a terrible experience. The first windshield was not sealed properly at the bottom and caused water to come into my car. I had a terrible mildew smell within a few days and attributed it to the windshield. They replaced the windshield (or fixed the install) and it stopped leaking. They paid Audi about $500 to clean the interior of the car. I also opted without knowing for the UV protected windshield, wreaked havoc on my EZ Pass and all of my third party GPS receivers (phone, radar, etc).

I believe Geico will pay a certain amount towards OEM, I recommend you do this if at all possible and have it done by a reputable shop.

I hear you. This is a perfect example of an installer with not enough experience. All of them have people that do not have enough experience. You might get a real good installer or just an ok one. Its hard to tell untill the job is done.

I had one guy that worked for me and all he did was my high end stuff porsche, lambos etc. He was an extremely good installer but he was the only one in the crew I could send to do the high end stuff. He was the only one with the skills to do the job right. Now all the other guys could do basic cars nissan, hondas, and Toyota with no problems.

Next time I need my glass repaired, I plan to take video or closeup photographs of where the glass meets the car so I have a point of reference after the install. I only noticed the issue on my bottom seal because I compared it to the same model car that I happened to walked by. From a casual glance my car appeared fine, but after comparing it to the same car with OEM glass I knew my install was not good as the gap at the bottom was more than the other car.

About to call Safelite to get a quote on the OEM replacement. Local Audi dealer (Paul Miller) it was roughly going to be $650-700 for the replacement. If Safelite is going to be over $500, I may just go with the Audi dealer because i'll have to pay the $500 deductible regardless. I'll just have to find out which company the Audi dealer uses for the repair and go from there.

Biggest concern at this point is definitely having it installed correctly the first time and without damaging any other aspect of the car.

I would do the same. Do you have glass coverage? If so there is no deductible, at least on my policy. It also does not impact your rate. Geico would pay up to the amount they would have otherwise paid safelite.

Safelite quoted me $590 for OEM install. Audi dealer quoted me $869. Now just waiting to hear back from one other place. If all three are above $500, i'll just end up going with the Audi dealer as regardless i'll have to pay the $500 deductible and i'd probably rather get it done by the Audi dealer even though they outsource the work.

First time i've had to go through this. So frustrating Biggest concern is just having it done right and not having it cause headaches in the future because of the installation. Probably going to call Geico too and find out about glass coverage just as a precaution since as of now its only covered with my $500 deductible.

The glass coverage costs me about $21 every 6 months - you can see the price difference if you edit your coverage on the website.

I own and operate my own Auto Glass replacement company in NNJ. I also used to work for Safelite. You should really check out this http://safelite-autoglass.pissedconsumer.com/ . Yes they do offer a lifetime warranty. But they have to with the type of work some of the technician supply. Ive been doing this for close to 30 years now. Ive seen some really jacked up

There is nothing wrong with certain brands of aftermarket glass. You have to know what brand to use and stay away from. Even the Sekurit brand is made in China and other countries these days when they used to be exclusively made in Germany and other European countries.

Mike at GlassCar does all my windshields. Getting my Suburban and Subaru done again this month after 2 rock strikes. Windshield insurance for the win, $100 deductible.

He is by far the best around, one guy, smooth operation. Did my Audi windshield 6 years ago and still 100%.

Called Geico and they refuse to pay for the OEM windshield which is what I want. So now I am paying out of pocket. Approx. $600 from Safelite and probably looking for a new insurance company.

I talked to CarGlass and he can only get me aftermarket unless I ordered through Audi and he installed it but Audi wants $600 for the windshield alone not including labor.

So you're going to pay more just so you can say you went to the dealer? I work for Safelite but that doesn't mean I have to advertise for them any chance I get. With that said, no matter the company you choose you may or may not get a good tech. I've been to dealerships, body shops, mechanic shops etc and I've seen techs from other companies work first hand and seen shit work performed. My suggestion to anyone is find a trusted person to do your work don't just rely on a company name. I received request plenty of times.

Vic does good work. He hooked me up with a new winshield on my truck and I haven't had a single issue. Only took him like 20 minutes to do also.
