a bit of a silly question regarding installation of S-Line side skirts (rocker mouldi

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,

I have a quick question regarding installation of the Audi S-Line rocker mouldings/side skirts; part number 8K0854931AGRU (Left hand) & 8K0854932AGRU (right Hand).

When identifying or determining which is 'left' or 'right' is it by sitting inside the car (e.g LHD car, the LH is the drivers side) or looking at the car as if standing in front and looking at it, (that would mean the LH would be a LHD car's passenger side).

    can anyone shed some light?

also, there are directional arrows next to the 'R' or 'L' ' --->' the arrow should point to the front of the vehicle when installing?

thanks in advance and apologies for the inexperience.

    regards,

Thanks, and the directional arrows marked on the part, means it should point to the front?

    cheers

Are you installing with 3M tape only, or also bolting the studs into the body panel as well?

No studs.. or drilling!!!!!... My dealership when car was new ,used the special automotive adhesive that's super strong.. I haven't had problems in a few years.
I had the already painted alu optik side blade put on on which is pretty much a perfect identical match to my silver car... But I am considering wrapping them a satin black in the future......

I definitely wont be drilling the body of the vehicle. Yes I can see the clip in slots on the skirt (which Im guess is a different part/ part number, as it wasn't supplied anyways). I will be using specific 3M tape.

Since you both had installed it, do you recall which way the arrow points to?
Because from what I can see, the arrow should point to the back of the car. When I hold the skirt up against the car. If the arrow points forward, the front and rear of the skirt sags downwards. I think it should have a slight upwards curve, following the feint contours of the front and rear guards.

There should be an "L" and an "R" on each. The letter should be face up when installed. I think the arrow points towards the back? If you google image search 2011 audi rock guards you should get a pretty good indication of the direction to install them.

    Heya, I had another look.

From what I can see, the L & R needs to be upside down and by doing that the arrow does point backwards.

Did anyone install the skirt with the clip on mounts? It didn't come supplied but it might be easier using it with doublesided tape/rather than drilling.

It appears that the tape supplied with the moulding on its own is inadequate... either I need to source those clips or purchase more double sided tape and double-it up.

I did double sided 3M auto body tape and adhesive, they aren't going anywhere.

Logic is thrown out the door when installing these. I installed them a few weeks ago and decided it's only logical for the arrows to face towards the front. Well I ended up installing them upside down. They don't look too bad this way, just not as aggressive as it should look. Used the 3m tape and polyurethane glue. Once I realized the mistake,it was too late to take it off and redo them. The glue +tape is more than enough

what do you mean by upside down?

Its hard to upload pics, but the tip/point of the skirt, the bottom should have more of a belly shape than the top, kinda like a steak knife... where the top side is more narrow and the borrow has a larger belly shape, if that makes sense.

Yup. So the belly shape is what shows. It doesn't look too bad. Each stop has a narrow end and a wider end. The wider end should be in the front, mine is towards the back. Hard to describe and hard to tell from pictures as well

    Heya,

Thanks for providing us with pictures.

Nice colour and rims. I originally never liked the way Audi a5's looked but its growing on me and I love the way they have a wide stance compared to the a4.

I think the colour (color in USA) hides it a bit... and doesn't look all too bad.

Look, obviously you know whats wrong, but others may not... the main question is, are you happy with it?...
You cant really tell unless you scrutinize it.

if you ever wanted to remove it by using floss or fishing line, its quite easy and you'll know which way it should go.

the color does hide the mistake well..I do agree, the untrained eye wouldn't quite notice. I'm going to leave it be for the time being

What tape did you use to fit yours?
It looks quite flush without any gaps.

It came with the 3m adhesive tape on it . I also used polyurethane glue as well for extra hold. Besides that, used painters tape once it was applied for pressure so it's tight. There was a small gap, which I was told is normal. I do worry for the winter and water freezing and making the gaps bigger.

Is that the genuine rocker mouldings?

Yeah I can see that there is only one strip of adhesive tape (possibly 3m).

But there are slots along the skirt, which I assume to be for individual mounting pieces either glued or drilled into the car and this moulding both slides into and glued down.

I may try some polyurethane glue also.

ill post some pictures once complete, it will be a couple weeks from now.
